Tuesday night dinner for 2, 7pm. Restaurant completely empty apart from us, literally no one entered during our 2 hour visit. Although staff were very friendly, serious communication/language issues whilst ordering, had to have 2 waiters to attempt to take a basic order, and eventually the chef himself had to come out to clarify! 2 x Chicken tikka vindaloo, 2 x naans, 1 x rice, 3 beers = £70. Vindaloo - truly excellent, full of flavour and added veg (Jalfrezi style) at request. Fluffy and fresh naans, standard rice. Bit strange with the atmosphere, as the music was on, then off, lots of very loud phone jingles every 10 mins from staff (for their delivery orders I assume). Bill came with 2 extra curries added, had to be rectified. Few basic customer service issues to be honest, no water offered (we were drinking beer tbf), ran out of serviettes, it was difficult to get staff attention despite us being the only eat in customers. It seems they are a predominantly takeaway establishment. It didn’t bother us too much, and staff rectified their mistakes and helped as best as possible when notified of issues - we found the funny side and kind of enjoyed it. Likely the staff are mainly there for delivery sake only on a Tuesday. If service is key, you may get annoyed! I’m sure they must have more competent staff on a weekend, as I can’t fathom how they can deal with multiple tables having struggled so much with one! But again, the food made up it in my opinion. In the top 3 of best London vindaloos for me. It was very spicy, but not over the top, and not packed with chilli powder. I would return. The chef and food make this restaurant based on tonight’s experience, he should get a raise. Bangladeshi chef. Thank you for the lovely meal, be careful with orders and billing please as some customers could be easily offended by this! More attention to customers needed, there is no excuse for customers to need to shout to get service when there only 2 out of 50+...
Read moreAs I reflect on my experience at Ramna, I find myself hoping that it is a front for criminal activity. If that isn't the case, then it stands as simply an infuriatingly badly run business. I was part of a large group booking (43 people) and understandably they requested a £500 deposit. No issues there. They also requested that we pre-order all of our meals. Again, no issues. When we arrived, we were served poppadoms and dips as you'd expect, but were kept waiting nearly an hour before one of our group asked if the food was coming soon and the waiter genuinely asked 'Oh you'd like it to be served now?' After confirming this, they told us it would be another 15 minutes. What ensued was the most chaotic and inconsistent bringing out of food, in which multiple people were kept waiting until others had finished before receiving their dish. Water was brought out in mismatched glasses (some of which looked like pint glasses nicked from pubs) and the curries were on the whole bang average. All of this would have been less disappointing if Ramna did not then have the audacity to charge us £35 each for our meals, as well as additional charges for poppadoms and dips (separately. For context, no item on the menu is worth £35. I've never been so horrifically ripped off before. To add to this, the music playing was some weird reggae mix on a non-premium Spotify account so we would occasionally get ads playing on full volume. One side of the room had some fairy lights holding on for dear life while the other side had lights on full brightness. Don't trust any of the 5 star reviews. Willing to bet they were written by the owners themselves (or ChatGPT). Avoid...
Read moreThis 'restaurant' is undoubtedly the worse place I have ever been unfortunate to set foot in. Myself and three colleagues went in on a Tuesday night. The place was completely empty but it was late in fairness. We asked for a beer and they didn't have a single one to serve us. Out of nowhere, three bottles of Cobra appear... warm!! They had gone across the road to Lidl to get some. I declined the offer as it wasn't cold. The staff then appeared with a cold bottle of Cobra but you could clearly see that it wasn't a full bottle and when poured, it was flat. The staff admitted that they had frozen the bottles the night before and forgot about them to the point that they exploded but had tried to serve what was left.
I again declined this 'offering ' .. such was my annoyance by this stage that I had absolutely no faith in the food which I didn't touch.
They still had the audacity to charge for the beer that I had declined and a 12.5% service charge on top. My three colleagues were all unwell the following day so I dodged that particularl bullet but ended up paying £33 for what was effectively a poppadom and a slice of bread.
I'll never go there again, it is a dump. No atmosphere, poor English spoken by the staff (not an issue in itself but hard to communicate my order), not even a table cloth, not particularly cheap for what is was, awful decor (actual holes in the wall and ceiling)
The sad thing is, with a bit of investment and professional pride, it could probably be a nice set up as the staff were actually really nice...
