260624 : Why is everyone in the pub being subjected to the commentary of the Slovakia vs Romania Euro 24 match ,? Wetherspoons 'selling point' used to be that they did not have loud music or TV blasting away. Clearly standard have slipped, are being ignored .. or have been dispensed with altogether 😱
041021 : Something very wrong with the place this evening. As always the staff are very pleasant and eager to please. But the kitchen was in a real tizzy. Possibly the worst steak I have ever had : over half an hour to arrive, over done, tough, dried out and with no peppercorn (or indeed any) sauce as ordered Possibly the worst advertisement for a usually excellent offer.
And the price has gone up by 50p within the space of a week.
290920 : Back in the promised land yesterday evening. Back to what one expects of Wetherspoons. Excellent signature steak with all trimmings. No shortage of tomatoes or mushrooms. Ruddles beer on tap and not tasting 'off'. Just a pity that the place had run out of HP sauce. The App took a bit of negotiating but worked less forbiddingly than I had anticipated. And a member of staff offered to help if I really got stuck ... which was very reassuring as, although I am IT literate, I am not a "techie". Just a pity that it did not give an option to have mushy peas instead of garden peas as was customary when ordering at the bar. Covid 19 security was much improved. The loophole by which slouches were able to by pass it by slipping in by the back (exit) door was now noticed off.
220920 : Gosh ! What is up with Wetherspoons these days ? Today no steak available at all ! ... (I ended up having fish and chips ... but there was no tartare sauce) ... and only three craft beers available on tap ! ... (of which one ..the Elgood Plum Porter had gone off and acidy). Such, in my experience, were never a problem before we entered the promised land. As for social distancing compliancing ? ... good process for those entering by the entrance designated for Covid compliance purposes ... But non existant for those who chose to enter by the exit designated for Covid compliance purposes ... of which there were many ... Need to be aware ... standards are slipping !
150920 : Sirloin excellent but we have left the EU and are in the promised land, so how can a Wetherspoons run out of mushrooms, mushy peas, beefsteak tomatoes and English mustard ? It's like an Italian restaurant running out of ice cream or tiramisu.
080920 : My compliments to today's chef. My well done signature sirloin steak today...
Read moreI admit that this was at midnight on a Saturday however I was not happy with my latest visit to this Weatherspoons after the cinema. There were only 2 or sometimes 3, bar staff on and the place was heaving. Understandably, they were a bit miserable and tired but it felt like they had given up for the night. Service was painfully slow, over half an hour waiting at the FRONT of the bar. We observed the bar tender making cocktails the right way, by swilling ice around to pre-cool the glasses and then tipping it away...(?) and using fresh ice with the drinks however at this time of night I really don't think the drunk clientele would care or even notice, they probably just wanted their drinks! Also, there were empty fridges so they could have just stacked them with all the cocktail glasses - colder glasses and less time! We eventually got served and sat outside - was nice and cool in the excellent outside seating area (inside was roasting!) But when we tried to get one more drink before closimg time we had to wait for another 30 minutes (some of that time was because a taxi driver (?) was fiddling around with his payment for ages... but instead of leaving him to it and serving us while she waited and then going back to him - there was plenty of time for this too btw - she made us wait so long that the bouncers started doing the rounds and telling the bar staff (including the supervisor) that it was time in 5 minutes. (Weird, I thought that the bouncers worked for the bar staff...?) Anyway, the supervisor didn't even speak to or look at us but just walked off after serving this taxi driver and left us standing there at the bar with no bar staff anywhere. Then the 3rd bar staff (who had been slowly putting glasses out and not serving at all) just rang the time bell. (No last orders, just time!) We had just wasted half an hour standing there in the heat for nothing! No communication at all, no sorry or ill be right with you... Terrible service! Terrible...
Read moreYesterday I decided to grab a drink in Milton Keynes. I did some research online and found that Wetherspoons Moon Underwater was open till 00:00. I drove all the way from North of Milton Keynes and got to the location at 23:10 where i was greeted by a man (bald, with ginger beard and he was wearing A team leader badge). He refused to let me in and wouldn’t give me an explanation as to why, he just said ‘the manager has said not to let anyone in after 23:00’. The man was extremely rude and refused to give me his name or call a manager. I then telephoned to speak with the manager (i believe his name was kyle). While i was on the phone to the manager, the guy at the door was smirking and again his body language came across very rude. The manager on the phone told me that it’s a new government guideline - not to let anyone in after 23:00 and if he lets anyone in, the pub may be closed. Upon searching online i could see that the opening hours were until midnight, there is no information on the website or anywhere which allows us to be informed of when entry will stop. I was told about government guidelines and went onto the gov website only to find there is no such guideline stated on there. The man at the door was vague and didn’t explain why I wasn’t allowed into the pub, surely the employees would be aware or the guidelines and would have been able to tell me without me having to call the manager? I’m very unhappy and distraught as I feel like I was treated very badly by the staff at this establishment. I’m not too bothered about the drinks or food, however an establishment such as Wetherspoons should be open to being honest with their customers rather than using a fake government guideline and rude employees to push them...
