Mogal E Azam - Blissful dream comed true
This restaurant is like a sacred place. It is not easy to talk about it and your very first descriptions won’t make it justice. I’ve been here a few times and I can not be more amazed of all the beautiful things that I can observe and feel with my whole being. It is like going back in time when there was no other law but the laws of love and gratitude. I came here and the guardians and angelic servants of this place made me feel like I am a worthy person… worthy of their time and attention. I have been invited to take a sit on the sofa just opposite to the bar, whilst waiting to be tended to. There, there are a few small round tables with very nice nibbles.
When it was my turn to be served, the waiter thoughtfully asked me what kind of food I would like to enjoy and then he carefully informed me of how the food is going to be prepared and how it is going to taste. This dialog was very insightful and because I have never experienced it before anywhere in the UK, I do appreciate it very much. This shows me how much they care about their customers.
I was seated at a table where two wine glasses, a vase with roses and table utensils where already set up like at a wedding table.
Food was served in a timely manner and it was deliciously spicy! Some rice with chicken curry and some naan bread. The vegetables inside the curry where very nicely grilled and the chicken bites had the right size, taste and tenderness. I really enjoyed the way they serve the food in the bowls from which you take as much as you want and place it on your main plate, from where you can slowly and elegantly savour it without the risk of messing your clothing.
The place is not very big but the way it is furnished with all the tables and indian cultural paintings and objects makes it feel like a dream retiring boat. You have all you need where you need it. The lights are a bit dimmed and nice and the music is very calming and puts you in a beautiful meditative state. In the back side of the restaurant, between tables are a few very nice carpets. It feels like you walk in a palace.
On the entrance’s wall there are lots of pictures of a variety of great artists. There are so many things you can learn here if you ask nicely at the right time.
The place is very well looked after and the toilets look exceptionally clean and well designed.
I've noticed that there are very fancy people who come here. People of all nationalities with different backgrounds and skills. I've learned that many of them have been loyal customers of this restaurant for years.
If you like big sensations, another thing that you can experience are the trepidations made by the tram passing between this restaurant and the University of Nottingham.
The place is very well placed in town… close to the University, the theatre, Cineworld Cinema and next to Crown Plaza Hotel. You should've noticed it by now many times I think.
If you are after discounts check it out, you might be as mesmerized as I am.
Thank you for paying attention to what I had to say. It is your turn to spell your truth. If you enjoyed what you’ve learned from my review, letting me know in any way will be much appreciated.
Cheers!

I went to my first gig at Rock City in over two years (Covid). After, we headed to The Mogal as usual.
I don't know what has happened, but the food was very salty and didn't taste like curry at all. It is presented well, and the staff (who we didn't recognise) are friendly, but it was a little disappointing based on many years of experience eating here. When I go for a curry, I want it to look and taste like curry or chicken tikka - not have multi-coloured sauces drizzled over it. The naans are half the size they used to be (tea saucer size now), and the Tikka was cut into tiny pieces and was more like a mini curry than Chicken Tikka, what with all the sauce on it.
But it was the salt most of all - I expect a proper curry to have salt in it, but I also want to taste the cumin and fenugreek.
The price was pretty much as expected - about £30 a head, so no complaints there.
Something similar happened several years ago when they got a new chef, but it went back to normal the next time we went. We mentioned it to them at the time.
I hope it changes for next time.
This is my original review.
This is always our go-to place after attending gig at Rock City. They were a bit busy this time, but the food was great as usual.
Went again on 1 March, and just to set the record straight from another review: 1) The staff can't choose the atmosphere - if no one is in, it WILL be quiet; 2) The staff are very friendly; 3) The quality of the food is excellent, and it is NOT overpriced - it is City Centre prices in a...
Read moreHad take away only to get home and find rice was Stone cold and the curry was 25%oil. Was a good job I ordered naan and poppadoms as this was all that was edible.
I called the following day only to have the phone put down on me and accused of trying to threaten them and extort £10 from them. The original price was more but as I'm honest I only asked for the cost of the items I couldn't eat to be refunded. During the phone call I was told I should have warmed the rice in the microwave and should have been quicker to eat the curry as the longer I leave it the more oily it becomes, add insult to injury comes to mind.
The guy on the phone also said its strange im the only person to complain and then a comment was made "what's wrong with you people" I was also informed that they have been trading for over 40 years which in my opinion is more than long enough to learn how to make food that is native to their country of origin.
Once again terrible food and shocking customer service. THIS IS MY EXPERIENCE AND NO WAY INTENDED TO INFLUENCE OTHERS IN A...
