We'd heard good things about ViDa but, to be honest, because of its slightly tucked-away location we were expecting it to be quieter than it was on the Friday night we went. However when we rocked up, without a reservation, almost every table was full. Luckily they were able to fit us in without a wait. Even had there been a wait though it would've been worth it.
We chose five tapas dishes between two of us. The croquettes that arrived first were round and filled with delicious meat and fluffy potato and the king prawns that were next were plump and perfectly cooked in a lovely white wine and garlic sauce. Next were wonderfully-crunchy cauliflower florets in a light batter and piquant sauce before the huevos fotos - fried potatoes mixed with black pudding and topped with a fried egg. The last dish to arrive was a melt-in-the-mouth pork cheek in a fantistic rich but sweet gravy.
Service was good and the drinks we had (a sherry, wine and beer) were all nice too. At just over £60 for the pair of us it wasn't super cheap however the quality of the food was up there with any of Nottingham's other tapas restaurants.
Now we know about ViDa I'm sure we'll visit again. Though we'll probably book...
Read moreBest meal we have had in a long time. Highly recommend. Hidden gem. We felt like it was more of an experience than just a meal. Everything we ate was so delicious I wanted to just taste that on its own each time. We had iberico ham, octopus & squid (both very different, recommend both), mushroom croquettes were really delicate and creamy, king prawns in garlic, breads with fresh grated tomato and garlic (even this was delicious!) And chorizo. The iberico ham was the best I've ever tasted (as advertised on the menu - best in Nottingham). The food was really authentic, flavoursome and QUICK! the service was impeccable. Sat us down with a smile, took our drink order straight away. Ordered ham first. When they brought it we ordered bread, then we ordered tapas. Each came out within about 5 minutes and all hot food was piping hot, served as it was ready as traditional with tapas. This place used to be a saloon bar and it was a bit dark and cold. Now it is warm, nicely decorated with nice ambience. It was full when we arrived which is always a good sign. We are quite late for a reservation at 9 and most tables left about 9.15. There were only 2 tables for most...
Read moreIt was a rather last minute decision to book somewhere to eat during a recent visit to The Motorpoint Arena. We were a party of two. It was around 5pm and we were led down some steps to this lovely, quaint basement restaurant. To our amazement it was busy and unfortunately all tables had been booked. However, the waitress kindly offered us the bar to sit at. I'm so glad she did because it gave us a whole different experience. The restaurant owner, Vincente, was hard at work behind the bar and took more than enough time to speak to me and my mum during a very busy period. He was open to discussing the menu so we could make a good choice for our meal. We certainly weren't disappointed as well. The food was lovely. Vincente prides himself on offering authentic Spanish food and it's a pleasure to see. The restaurant, albeit small, was decorated well, resembling an underground bodega. I'd recommend booking in advance.
A proper Spanish feel, a great welcome and food to match topped off by great staff and an owner that prides his restaurant on quality and authentic Spanish food. I'm not often in Nottingham but I'll certainly be...
