Quite simply. The finest bread I have ever tasted. Anywhere in the world! In the ten years since I have found out my gluten sensitivity prevented me eating "normal bread" even though from a proper bakery. And having eventually found The Brown Bread Company based near home in Hertford who have an excellent diverse range of tasty breads. However once you take one bite of the Jacka Sourdough Granary,White or Emmer? You are transported into another world! I grew up close to a brewery and the smells from there were of the fields, fresh cut grass, warm hops, the smell of the earth. The tastes were of chocolate, caramel, molasses, wheat. But equal to all those ingredients. The passion and skill put into every glass, every sip as in every loaf and every bite I and my lady have tasted from this "Baking Heaven" we have discovered. Lovely knowledgeable staff and wicked pot of tea and jam toast. Simply sitting down and inhaling makes you hungry. Any chance of a fast bike to Hertford once a month? Just walk through the...

Bought expensive Chocolate from Easter display on 31st of March went home wrapped them ready for Easter..... On the 4th of April Easter Sunday present was unwrapped One happy partner ....oh no not quite....label on back of box said best before 1st April......looked like I had bought half price chocolates... Contacted Jacka to be told I had bought before 1st April so technically.......then said if they had any in stock ...which they didn't they would have done an exchange.... Shoddy gave you a chance I paid a premium price for premium product and service didn't get it!! You are happy to sell a product that is no longer at it's best...... You obviously don't care as you were unable to make any attempt to put things right Perhaps be aware of the date Easter falls on next year Warning just because a bakery has a queue it dosen't mean it's good One final question Mr Jacka How old was that sourdough bread I bought? Two days maybe past it's best before but hey the money is in the till and we still have a queue outside...

Woke up particularly early the creels after being told twice by staff members they sold out first thing. Not sure why, this was one of the worst pastries I’ve had. A bit heavy on the filling. Pastry itself was alright but they ruined it with the filling and overcharged. Also, only one flavour available. Not much choice at all, for what they consider their most sought after product. Was quite disappointed by the product. The filling was essentially three tablespoons of cheap caramel filling.

The cake - white chocolate and raspberry. Just tasted like an Asda smart price Victoria sponge. Too sweet and too dry.

Very overpriced for the quality of products provided. They’ve just essentially hyped themselves up on instagram and got their friends to do the same. I’ve had better from oggy oggy getting the...

Veggy pasty is full of mold :-( But cinnamon bun is amazing! We went there this morning to buy some food for our today's hike and bought (above other things) a vegan pasty and a vegan spiced roll, both from the open fridge. We wanted to eat it 3 hours later and both items were full of mold. We were really shocked. I tried to call the shop, but nobody answered. We were only this day in Plymouth, so we can't go back. Update: we reached out to the owners via Facebook, they explained that they don't make the vegan rolls and pastys themselves and assured us we would receive our money back. Didn't happen so far, but let's see :-) And I want to add, that the cinnamon roll is simply amazing.

As one of the oldest bakeries in the UK, it is a quintessential Plymouth institution, and one of my go-to bakeries here. Their sourdough bread, notably their malted barley loaf is my favorite. They do sell out of the creels (croissant wheels) by late morning, so do go early for them! The creels are lovely when they're fresh, so eat them quickly as they do lose their texture. Recommend: sourdough bread (including malted barley loaf), various creels, eccles Not notable: regular croissant, chocolate croissant, croissant cubes

look forward to the finest most authentic sourdough in the southwest from this charming little family run bakery . and a cup of coffee matching the same level of perfection . Arran, the amusing, heavy metal loving, and sharp witted barista has been playing the caffeine pipes here for long enough to draw a first every time . Be warned get there early if you want bakery product (or place an order) .
