The interior is really nice, very Greek and has cool art work around. But it was let down by the food and service.
I had the Lamb Souvlaki and my partner had the Kalamari main.
The Souvlaki was ok, though kind of bland and the ratio between actual meat and salad was a joke. You pay around £18 for 50% salad, 25% meat and 25% rice (as shown in picture attached).
The kalamari is was decent, though overcooked a little so it was pretty tough chewing some pieces. It was also better as it was more kalamari than salad it seemed.
The salad wasn’t terrible mind, it was very refreshing but just too much of it when considering the price you’re paying for these dishes, you’d expect more meat than salad.
The service wasn’t great. We were seated and took over 10 minutes before anyone asked us for drinks. Our waitress who took our order was extremely quiet and we had to repeat everything we said twice. Normally I would say this was because the restaurant was loud but at this time it wasn’t at all. During the meals, nobody came and asked us if the food was ok at all. Then when it came to the bill, it took nearly 15 minutes after asking for it for them to bring it over. So overall just slow.
So we personally wouldn’t be back unfortunately which is sad as this place could have so much potential and we have been wanting to try it out for years but we feel...
Read moreStarters were tasty enough. Had the meatballs and vine leaves. Ordered a hummus and tzatziki as well. Meatballs came with a heap of tzatziki on the side but they didn't think to let us know this, otherwise we'd not have ordered extra.
Main courses were a disaster. We had the stuffed vegetables with rice and potatoes, and the Greek lamb casserole. The stuffed vegetables were just some pepper and onion with a tinned tomato sauce. Extremely bland. Rice was overcooked and the whites of the potatoes were chewy. Nowhere near restaurant standard.
The lamb casserole was just a lamb shank in gravy with carrot and onion. Rice was again overcooked and mushy. Potatoes also chewy. If I ordered it at Wethersooons I'd have thought it borderline acceptable. There was nothing Greek about it. The lamb was tender which was good. Both dishes were incredibly salty and had too much black pepper.
I don't know if it was just an off-day, a trainee chef, or what. I can't believe the chef actually tasted the mains before serving. Waitress took the stuffed vegetable dish off the bill without us asking, so that was good. We came in March and had the sharing menu and thought it really nice (hence why we came back). After last night I think we've unfortunately had our...
Read moreThis is a cosy taverna, decorated in simple Greek style with blues and whites.
The menu promises food cooked to family recipes so we were expecting authentic Greek/Greek Cypriot food but we were sadly disappointed.
The starters were hit and miss. The meatballs and the prawn cocktail were nice. However but the lettuce in the prawn cocktail was too wet, no freshly ground black pepper available to add to the sauce and the tomatoes relatively flavourless.
The potato starter was bland with a weak and watery dressing and hardly any lemon/olive oil/salt/dill/oregano flavours that are the staple of Greek/Cypriot salads.
The main courses were reaaonable - the spices/flavours were there but didn't manage to elevate the dishes to how authentic Greek food should taste. The 'Greek salad' accompanying them had cubes of feta and olives, but it wasn't quality feta/olives/olive oil and a poor imitation of how the salads should actually taste.
We didn't stay for pudding as we felt this would fall short of expectations.
The staff were lovely and the service was good but sadly we wouldn't go back. Its a shame because it is a great location and has so...
