The Coffee Shack — Restaurant in Plymouth

I popped along for coffee and food with my husband and granddaughter today. The lady took our order then disappeared, with no explanation. We were left waiting for our food and drinks, after a while she came back with no apology. I asked her colleague for our order, because by now other orders had been taken. I asked the colleague what had happened and she said, "she had to run to the toilet it was an emergency". Seeing the lady behind the counter handling food after being told of the emergency toilet situation 🤢. I said I didn't need to know the details, and could I please cancel my food order. She was rude and abrupt and said she was only being honest and telling the truth....

Thank you for taking the time to reply. Yes I was offered a refund which I declined as another assistant offered to prepare my order. Working in hospitality myself (restaurant supervisor), I would be horrified if a member of staff had expressed to a customer that she had to go to the toilet because it was an emergency ! Any other excuse could have been given, but the toilet and an emergency aren't the words you want to hear when someone is preparing your food. The assistant defended herself in a rude manner by saying "I was only telling the truth, do you want me to tell lies". Not very professional. And actually yes ! In this instance a lie would have been better. But once again, thank you for your swift reply, perhaps some staff training...

I’ve been coming to this little shack for years and met a few owners and staff. I think it’s a lovely place to have the best coffee around with lovely breath taking views! I’ve had a variety of food from here and it’s always been lovely and fresh and hot ! All the staff are very friendly and nothing is ever too much trouble for them, all staff are very well mannered and they make you feel very at ease with special orders. Thank you for your expertise we will always be back! your all doing and have done an amazing job at the shack!!

Lovely cup of coffee and food. Staff all friendly and polite with the exception of one male member of staff with grey hair and glasses, makes you feel very uncomfortable and intimidated with his lack of customer service skills and abruptness. We are always unfortunate enough to be served by this man just about every visit. Twice now he hasn't passed on the tickets to other staff for orders and then not apologised. There's the odd please but never ever a Thank you. Makes you feel like you're nothing but an inconvenience. We will give the Coffee shack...
