Disappointing Experience - Quality and Service Have Declined
I have been a regular at The Terrace in Plymouth for some time, largely due to its lovely views and previously excellent service. However, my recent visit has left me highly disappointed and questioning if I will return.
From the start, it was clear that things had changed since last summer. The staff seemed disinterested and unhelpful, walking about without attending to customers. Getting a drinks order was akin to pulling teeth, and the service was alarmingly slow.
We had pre-paid for our food, which was a mistake in hindsight. Our meal took an astonishing 1 hour and 20 minutes to arrive. After waiting for 45 minutes, we were informed that they had run out of chicken. This should have been communicated much earlier, considering it was a pre-paid order.
When the food finally arrived, it was a disaster. My burger, priced at £18, was dry and burned. The bread was falling apart, and the entire meal was unappetizing. I couldn’t distinguish between the burger and the black pudding due to the excessive charring. My partner’s £16 scallop dish was equally disappointing, with a mere five small scallops served. (No sides also!!)
Adding to the frustration, I overheard complaints from two other tables nearby. The manager, who should have been addressing these issues, was unapproachable and visibly having a bad day. This, however, is no excuse for making customers feel uncomfortable and unwelcome.
Also only 1 toilet so the queue is savage.
Given the substantial decline in both service and food quality, I believe compensation is warranted for this disappointing experience. I urge the management to address these issues promptly to restore the standards that once made The Terrace a delightful...
Read moreWent for breakfast bank May bank holiday couldn't' fault it. Then went back again 2 weeks ago for breakfast again had a mega breakfast when it arrived toast was like charcoal. Asked for it to be replaced it took over 15 minutes, by this time breakfast was long gone. can't believe any kitchen would send out black toast. So bit put off from going again. Giving the restaurant the benefit of a busy day last time, we went again today for a snack and drink, my wife's Panini went to someone else not sure if this man touched it but it was in front of him for at least a minute, before they realised. The waitress swap it walked back into the kitchen and back out with it to give it to my wife trying to blag it that it was fresh, we said we weren't sure if he had touch so we said we want another done. After 5 minutes a over cooked panini arrived my wive didn't want to make a fuss but she just picked at it. I asked to speak to the manager who was a big over powering abrupt man, who couldn't see want the fuss was and accused us of trying to get our money back, He offered a replacement but it wasn't fancied after all the wait etc, then a free drink , i said we were leaving So this to me seams like they rely only on passing trade holiday makers, who most of may only visit Plymouth once and wouldn't complain. Real shame cracking place looking out to sea with most staff very nice and most reviews looking good. wouldn't of wrote this but for his attitude. Plenty of other places on Plymouth Hoe or The Barbican to chose from, with care about the quality of the food and good...
Read moreSign said out front to come in and find a seat .Had to clean the table ourselves if we wanted to sit next to the sea view, had to go to the bar to order food and drinks ourselves as no one had come over since we cleaned the table and sat down looking at the menu. I'm not scanning some QR code on a table and signing up to something using an unknown site with my card details. Most other people had someone working their tables taking orders. Had to go back to the bar a while later to ask about the drinks, turns out our order had been lost, even had to check the food order had made it to the kitchen. I ordered the "terrace Kebabs" at £19 on the large portion side of the menu, listed as being chicken, salmon, halloumi. I'd have guessed it would have been a little of each, but I was asked to choose one of the three. Two small chicken kebabs turned up for £19 large portion, I have no idea how they classed that as a large anything. My partners chicken wrap looked better for less. There's other things I'm not gonna go into, but yeah I'd guess the location is what gets people in the door, I think their biggest problem is getting people coming back. I got newly opened, staff being...
