The pub, staff and food cannot fault.
Before even leaving Warwickshire to make the 3 1/2 hour journey to Plymouth I recieved a message to say payment had already been taken from my card for my stay. Surely you can at least meet and greet your guests before taking their money? If you are here to stay and not sleep this is the place for you!! On arrival we spent 45 minutes driving round and round looking for a parking space in zone H where my £5 parking pass would allow me. As we couldn't find one I gave up and ended up paying at the metre. We were booked into room 3 for 2 nights, the room that requires some sound proofing or better still would be better suited as a storage cupboard with no windows except in the bathroom. The room where all you can hear is the noise from the bar below and surrounding rooms with the uncomfortable mattress. Second night being worse than the first, being woken at 2.30 by guests in room 2 shouting and swearing , banging and crashing around making the walls and floor shake this unsettling my dog. Then to get woken again by guests above testing out the mattress with loud sqreaching around the floor. By 4.30 we hade enough and made the decision to leave and come home to sleep. Not worth the £76 per night that I paid, had this not already been taken from my card and then leaving at 5am I would not...
Read moreWent here for a Sunday roast after calling to book at the Fisherman Arms who said The Gipsy Moth was their sister restaurant and had the same menu. The pub itself is lovely and has really good potential. We waited a very long time to be served, when our starters came it didn’t come with the condiments stated on the menu and when asking the wait staff she seemed quite put out and told us the menu had changed but eventually after a very long wait went to get the condiments. The roast was awful and can safely say it was one of the worst roasts we had ever had. Clearly had been sat under a heater for a very long time, potatoes and stuffing were rock solid and parsnips weren’t cooked at all. A group of ladies who ordered before us were also very unhappy with their meal and as they left told us it was awful and inedible. At the end of the meal we went to pay at the til and asked if we could split the bill. Again the staff behind the counter seemed very put out and abruptly told us she would have to give us the bill to sort out ourselves as she had “plenty of other things to do” which we said was absolutely fine and then saw her having a cigarette outside whilst we sorted the bill. Clearly a serious problem with not having enough staff on shift but even that doesn’t excuse the poor quality food. Such a shame for what seemed like...
Read moreAfter a previous visit to this pub when we sat outside talking to a member of staff & enjoyed a really pleasant evening my Sister & I decided we would visit again for a meal taking a friend with us. We were taken to our table, which was sticky & dirty & would have benefited from a table cloth thrown over it, then given a limited choice menu, the other two ordered fish & chips but I wanted the swordfish steak. I ordered at the bar but was not confident that the bar girl understood what I was asking for so I pointed it out on the menu (she was foreign) After a lot of head nodding i thought she'd got it. Our meals arrived. 3 plates of fish & chips! Not knowing how they serve swordfish I decided to accept what was in front of me & not Co Plain after ten minutes the waitress arrived with another plate, 'fish of the day' meal, I explained that neither meal was what I ordered but said I would prefer the fish of the day so she removed the fish & chips. Did I enjoy it,? NO! Are we going back? NOT a chance!! Pleasant bar staff, shame about the pub & the fact that they employ some staff that do not understand spoken or...
