Went on a Friday night with my brother for a late birthday meal and we weren't disappointed with our choice. I'd had an offer of a free main course and was surprised when our server produced Ingredients for a mix-it-yourself caipirinha which I hadn't ordered...turned out this was another birthday surprise! I'd already ordered a pair of watermelon margaritas from the 2for1 cocktail menu so only tried a couple of sips but found it a little too strong for my liking. The mains came quite quickly; Seafood Moqueca for me and Guava glazed ribs with a side of sweet potato fries for my brother. The ribs smelled delicious and were melt in the mouth, eith a lovely glaze, though we had to ask for a steak knife to divide them up. The Moqueca was creamy and not too spicy, with a nice mix of juicy King prawns, mussels and clams. For dessert I had Churros with Dulce de Leche; crispy and warm with a light dusting of cinnamon sugar and a dipping pot of sauce. Our server was friendly, polite and efficient though we had to ask her to repeat herself 2 or 3 times due to the volume of ambient noise; the music volume was too high meaning everyone had to raise their voices to have a conversation which only made it worse. Apart from that though, we had a very enjoyable meal.

Our experience at Las Iguanas in Portsmouth was a lively adventure filled with vibrant vibes, a plethora of cocktails, and a flavorful twist. The standout feature was the enticing 2-for-1 cocktail deal, available all day long, making it a fantastic spot for those looking to savor a variety of concoctions without breaking the bank. The cocktail menu at Las Iguanas was extensive, offering a diverse array of choices to suit every palate. The mixologists showcased their skills with each drink, ensuring a delightful experience for cocktail enthusiasts. While the libations were a highlight, we did encounter a slight hiccup with our food order. Despite expecting the Ultimate Fajita, we received the Steak Fajita. The overall atmosphere at Las Iguanas contributed to the positive experience. The lively ambiance, combined with the vibrant decor, created a setting that felt both energetic and inviting. In summary, Las Iguanas in Portsmouth offers a compelling package of 2-for-1 cocktails, a diverse cocktail menu, and a lively atmosphere. Though there was a minor glitch with our food order, the swift correction and overall experience make this cocktail bar a recommended destination for those seeking a lively night out.

Very loud, couldn’t even hear the waitress speak to us, needs something lower than the ceiling, like hanging shutters etc to dampen the racket! Service variable, I gave up trying to flag down a server to order more drinks, we drank our first one whilst waiting for our food, I went to the bar, barmaid then related our order to our waitress, ugh. Disappointing having a £4 service charge added to the bill! It was automatically added, no choice to remove it! I couldn’t even tell the waitress as she would have struggled to hear me. Drinks were ok, but 50% crushed ice, the paper straws can’t handle it and become too soggy to drink through half way through the cocktail. We had to flag down our waitress to ask for more straws. They think they’re being eco friendly by not giving plastic straws, they’re not! The paper straws have a wax coating, so can’t be recycled. Food wasn’t good at all, chilli was bland, rice mediocre (no better than microwave rice which can be pinged at home), Mexican poppadum was rock hard, don’t eat it unless you want to break your teeth! Ximxim was revolting! Just 6 tiny crayfish the size of a little fingernail in it (hubby even mentioned he had never seen crayfish that small before). The chicken in it made me vomit…at the table! I have never done that before. First bite had a membrane on it, like trying to eat a thin condom, second bite had the cartilage running through it, which made me gag when I tried to eat it. The waitress offered me another dish, if they can’t cook something as simple as chicken, or a chilli, I certainly didn’t want anything else! Obviously clueless cooks in the kitchen. This was removed from my bill fortunately. We certainly won’t be eating at a Las Iguanas ever again, ruined hubby’s birthday. Disgusting food at expensive prices with poor service in a deafening din. Plenty of nice places to eat in Gunwharf fortunately. If you value your stomach, and your ears, this is a place to avoid!

This restaurant has beautiful views down the canal to the sea and the Staff are very well trained and are really genuinely lovely people who have turned over a lot since I started coming here in 2008 but the quality and friendliness of staff has been consistent , service is great, but you do have to be patient when everyone is asking for cocktails during the busy periods at the bar. The atmosphere is very relaxed Latino , friendly and buzzing especially at weekends. The kitchen always has enough staff to cope with the inevitable surges . This is a very family welcoming friendly restaurant and Prices are comparable with the rest of Gunwharf, we believe our overall favourite dishes are very reasonably priced which include the blazing bird with the hot Vivo sauce and the chicken fajitas, I like the Brahma Brazilian beer and my girlfriend loves the cocktails which are usually 2 for 1, she only drinks cocktails in Las Iguanas in the U.K. says they are the best ever which says a lot for their cocktails. Lots of outside seating and a lovely spot to catch a tan or sit and watch the sun go down .

This evening was the first time I've visited here. It was a nice, clean atmosphere, with relatively comfortable seats, which allowed me to have a great time catching up with Uni friends! Also, there was a vast range of food and cocktails choices, with a few separate deals on meals and drinks. Staff were relatively polite and helpful, although we did have to wait quite a while for our plates to be cleared, even when there were a few other groups dining. In my opinion the food was average quality. As per the pictures, I ordered a steak and their banana sticky toffee pudding. The steak was cooked to how I asked, but was rather tastless, luke-warm and small for a £20.00 portion. I found the complementary sauces didn't add anything to the flavour and, again were quite tastless. The banana sticky toffee pudding was nice, but nothing special. It was certainly not homemade. In conclusion, with the range of restaurants available, I personally would not come here again - nor would I really recommend it to friends or family.
