A couple of months ago I was asked to help arrange a family gathering, and I decided to ask if ‘The Liquorist’ venue in Gunwharf Quays might be available to cater for 40+ guests. Luckily for us, they were able to help, and better still, on the date specified; namely Sunday May 29th 2022.
The event involved several family members travelling from various points in the UK and so suitable local parking was of huge importance.
Living locally our immediate family arrived early at the venue, and were pleased at the helpfulness of all the staff who were present on the day.
I particularly wished to thank one young lady who was serving at the downstairs bar (Poppy) who was just so pleasant and helpful towards all members of our family group and always with a smile.
My primary thanks however must I feel, go out to the duty manager (Tristan Van Den Heuvel) whom I had the pleasure of meeting on our arrival, and who could not have been more efficient or reassuring, sorting out our buffet, and even finding time in between to snap a few excellent group photographs for us look back on.
Regrettably, I was unable to meet the kitchen staff, personally but wanted to add that they also did us proud. Their attention to detail meant we had everything we required and on time, including hot food for those with any specialist dietary needs.
In conclusion, despite our day ending later than we had envisaged; the family who remained were offered a separate reserved seating area downstairs where our conversation and drinking could continue.
So thank you again to all concerned. We honestly had such an amazing day, and we would have no hesitation in Highly Recommending ‘The Liquorist’ and all it’s staff who were in any way involved in making our gathering so enjoyably...
Read moreThe two of us went here and ordered a bigger breakfast and a small breakfast, costing £18.98, price was fine. Service and no food was absolutely diabolical. We had such a bad experience when not being delivered any food within a 44-minute window and then another 15 minutes discussing a refund that we have to wait 10 to 14 days to get after having to take personal details from us. We order food then having to wait 27 minutes, we ask one of the staffs how much longer is our food going to be and they said "ours was next up, so about 5 minutes". at 34 mins after 6 minutes later we then went to the bar staff to put in a complaint and they said "definitely another 5 minutes", they looked at their monitor and so did we of all of the table orders that were there and there was 6 left and ours was second in the queue with another order 3 minutes longer than ours. At 44 minutes, we gave up waiting and went back to the bar to ask for a refund. They could not give us a straight refund like most places can, after this discussion, the manager didn’t even come out, the bar staff had to deal with us and didn’t really seem interested and after another 15 minutes of taking our details and telling us we won’t get our refund for 10 to 14 days, was so embarrassing. Conclusion: 44 minutes wait with 2 excuses, no food, £18.98 taken, another 15 minutes of discussion on refund, made us miss on other things to do in the day, and no proof that they can actually refund us. The most poor and shocking experience I have ever had when out for...
Read moreAfter a great weekend in Portsmouth enjoying good food and drink we made the mistake of going to the Liquorist for afternoon drink and bite to eat. The serving staff were great, polite and helpful but the food was awful. The menu read well but the food that turned up bore no resemblance to the description. It's been quite a while since I've had a bad burger as most places realise how easy it is to make a tasty mouthwatering one without breaking the bank, and guess what, it brings customers in. See photo for the Liquorist version, dry cheap bun, burnt cheap burger, a few scraps of lettuce and unbelievably, a slice of plastic cheese!!! And it was cold!! The Triple cooked chunky chips turned out to be half cooked, soggy cheap frozen chips! That's not all. My girlfriends Caesar salad turned out to be a bowl of chopped lettuce with a boiled egg cut in half and a squirt of cheap dressing! They couldn't even be bothered to grate some parmesan on. Management came over and refunded for the burger, but, for god's sake, an edible version of this sort of food is not difficult or expensive to produce! A few decent ingredients, pay and educate your catering staff so they care how it goes out to the customer. Liquorist management, I'm sure you would complain if you were served a cold burnt dry burger with a slice of plastic, why serve it to your customers. Penny pinching, money grabbing businesses deserve a bad reputation. I won't be coming back. One star is for the great staff, one star is...
