Yookees — Restaurant in Portsmouth

I tried beef noodles and chicken noodles (cold dish) and stinky egg with tofu. I am not sure the noodle is made of wheat or corn based wheat or etc. The noodle is too firm (not to mix up with al dente). If it is made of wheat or even rice, it will become very soft or even disgustingly dissolved when soaking in soup for a very long time. I took more than half an hour to finish the beef noodles and it remained very firm. Being Asian, I think this is not a normal noodle. For the tofu, it's stinky egg is chopped (and the portion should be less than half of an egg). Yet the problem is not the quantity but it loses the softness. I doubt it is because it is chopped and exposed to air without preserving its moisture. For the tofu I know they must buy from others, still it is a 'hard' one not the soft one. To serve a cold dish, the tofu must be a soft type (while I may appreciate that they may not be able to source it around). For the service and atmosphere I regard it normal and they keep the shop...

We were staying in Portsmouth this weekend and we love Chinese food so were excited to see good reviews for this place.

We ordered a delivery of vegetable spring rolls, chicken curry, salt and pepper chips, sweet and sour chicken and egg fried rice.

Although the portions are large, the prices are higher than we pay back at home (my local in Berkshire does a main with rice for about £11 whereas here it is nearer £18 and of course that is pure menu prices, not with delivery). That would not have been an issue if the food was great, but sadly it was very average.

The salt and pepper chips didn't taste fresh, not did the spring rolls (you could taste the cooking oil in them). The sweet and sour was not blended very well and had a vinegar bias making it unpleasant. The chicken curry was okay but had way too many onions for my liking. Rice was clumpy.

My local is not only cheaper but it does way better food and...

Looks like a family run business and you can tell because of the food & service !! We came here 2 days in a row.

The server was kind enough to give me a refill of the rice without any extra cost because I had extra sauce left dry in my plate that I wanted to finished off. Also appreciate the amount of prawns 🍤 you’ve put in mine. I hope this place doesn’t change over time because it’s hard to find a place like this.

I really like the £9.80 deal rice/noddle and choose your choice of the dish to go with it.

We will be back when we are next in Portsmouth. I wish they had this...
