4 of us discovered this gem of a place on a night out in Reading whilst walking between drinking establishments. It’s a small but comfortable place where the staff welcomed us and got us settled in with the minimum of fuss. Not only were all of the staff very helpful and knowledgeable about the menu but each and every one of them were very friendly. The menu was varied enough for us all and offered the usual dishes that you’d expect from an Indian restaurant. The food didn’t disappoint. It arrived reasonably quickly and was delicious. I would recommend the buttered chicken madras. The special rice was probably the best I’ve had, At the time I’m writing this review they had a special offer on cobra beer, in as much as if you bought one, you got another for free. Well, what can I say, 4 late 50’s blokes on a night out, great food and free beer… what’s not to like. We were all surprised at the copious amount of food served to us and also surprised by the bill. The cost of our food and beverage came in at under £100. A real surprise given that we all ate till we were full. After we had left Biriani Mama looking to find another drinking establishment the manager of the restaurant actually ran up to us and said that two of our group had left their mobile phones on the table. How he managed to find us, in Reading, on a night out, some distance from the establishment was a wonder. No one from the restaurant had even touched the phones, they were exactly where they had been left. What a great thing to have done. In conclusion, if you are in Reading and looking for a place to eat I would recommend Biriani Mama to you. Great food, lots of it, great value for money and great friendly service. Above and beyond what...
Read moreWe recently had Biryani Mama cater a large corporate event for over 120 people, and it was an extraordinary experience from start to finish. The menu was impressively diverse, offering a wide selection of vegetarian, non-vegetarian, and even vegan dishes, each prepared with evident care and authentic flavors. Every guest found something to love, and the feedback from our team was incredibly positive. Many commented that this was the best Indian food they’d ever had at a corporate gathering.
What truly sets Biryani Mama apart is the masterful touch of the chef. Every dish whether the biryanis, flavorful curries, or the fresh garlic naan was bursting with vibrant spices and perfectly balanced aromas. The chef effortlessly adapted to suit all dietary requirements, making sure every guest felt included and warmly welcomed. It’s rare to see such attention to detail paired with such consistent quality, especially for an event of this scale.
The service was seamless and professional, and the team went above and beyond to accommodate our requests. Our guests were delighted and genuinely happy, many came back for seconds, and some even asked for takeaway boxes for their families! Biryani Mama delivered an experience that truly exceeded our expectations and made our event memorable.
If you are searching for a caterer who brings magic to every meal and leaves your guests raving, I highly recommend Biryani Mama. Their culinary artistry, hospitality, and ability to handle high-volume events with finesse are second to none. We will absolutely be returning for...
Read moreAs regular patrons of Indian restaurants and being South Indians ourselves, we have a deep appreciation for authentic flavors. Unfortunately, our experience here was disappointing.
We started with the sweet corn chicken soup and hot and sour chicken soup, only to find unexpected pieces of Chicken 65 in them and no beaten egg white (we’ve had sweet corn chicken soup several times in many restaurants) which didn’t complement the flavors. The Madurai mutton chukka lacked the authentic spices / flavour that define the dish. It also seemed half-cooked, and when we raised this with the waitress, we were told it was an “Andhra style” version( however clearly it Mentioned Madurai mutton chukka in the menu ) .
The chicken vepudu was overwhelmingly spicy, and the chicken biryani, while passable, had undercooked chicken. The staff mentioned they’ve only been open a month and promised improvement, but this doesn’t justify the poor quality we experienced.
On a brighter note, the gulab jamun was delightful and stood out as a highlight of the meal. However, despite raising our concerns, we were charged the full bill, which left us disappointed overall.
We sincerely hope the restaurant takes this feedback to heart and improves their dishes...
