Gordon Ramsay Street Burger sets a great example on how a restaurant shouldn't be run.
Here are my thoughts.
Nothing about the restaurant is 'street'.
Dark walls and wooden floor, dim lights and funky neon light bars comes as more of futuristic time warp, rather than reminding you of anything about the street. The live DJ session with EDM garage music on a Friday fits perfectly to that. It's not aesthetically pleasing, it's a noise pollution. I can't even here what my companion is saying across the table. Most of all, it certainly distracts you from the food.
£15 bad burgers? Is this the new trend?
Turns out, grass fed Hereford beef could taste bad, when it's burnt to black. Joking a side, the burger itself had no merits when compared to the other high street burger joints in Reading. We ordered the #BAE and J.F.C burger. Nothing stood out to be exciting here. It's unfortunate that my faith after the 50 minute wait came to nothing. It was just cooked ingredients stacked on top of each other, with no memorable flavour profile. It makes you wonder whether eating all that fat content was worth it. Shame that I even have to think that, isn't it?
Lovely staff, although I worry about their hearing.
Our server was attentive, quick and friendly. He managed to overcome all the noise to kindly explain the menu for us. Another server also came to apologise about the anticipated long wait for the food due to the large group orders. I appreciated this.
Break up (the meal), with short cups
We all hate being told by the family member to get something from the fridge half way through the meal. When you are eating, you just want to enjoy it fully! Turns out, the restaurant designer happens to be that annoying older sibling who makes you go and top-up your soft drink halfway through, because it's fun to make your meal less enjoyable (or is it an economical tactic to save the cost on soft drink fountain machine...?) If you would like a taller cup, you could choose to sit outdoors in the cold, as your sibling pities you a little bit.
Verdict: McDonald across the road are promoting double big Mac's as their seasonal menu at the moment. As I got my hot chocolate, I wondered how satisfying it would have been, if I had spent £34.50 here to take it home and watch Netflix with it. It would have been a feast.
If you guys think my review is bit of a joke with 'ahh another hater throwing a shade', you guys should really re-think about that. Gordon Ramsay hype is transient, and we may end up with another empty Riverside restaurant venue...
Read moreFist of all ignore the reviews below they're made by people that normally eat at Mcdonalds. They go for a Gordon Ramsey Afordable Range Burger on Sunday and spend their 10% of universal credit to pay for it so they can brag later that they went to Gordon Ramsey restaurant... look at the reviews they're so impressed.. with Unlimited Refills of Coca cola and onion rings.. its something that they know and can relate too.. anyway.. Wondering if Gordon Ramsey knows this place exists? I'll be honest with you.. I was expecting more from this place. By the way.. How would Gordon R have his burger grilled? . I would assume it would be medium / raw. That's something you can't get in here. Neither you can at burger king or mcdonalds which tells you something about this place.. Its a fast food chain an expensive one. Anyway.. let's forget about for a minute.. what you see in the photo is what you get 1 inch diameter mini burger grilled for 10 minutes too long. It was almost hard. This place should change its name to Gordon's Ramsey Mini Affordable Burgers. Onion rings that everybody is so excited about were soaked in oil. Probably at end of the day chef was too lazy to change the oil (if people that flip the burgers can be called chefs) Oil used on multiple occasions for hours of frying don't make butter crispy.. its being absorbed by the butter and that was the case with the onion rings.. Nice sauces thoo and good combination of flavours hence one star. Everything else is really not wort the money. £ 16 mini burger and £ 5 for a wine £ 4-5 onion rings. lol and I had to go to another restaurant to top up after that. Btw wine tasted like water and the guy that was poring the wine into the glass took extra cautious measures trying his hard not to put too much. it was not even half the glass.
in conclusion over £ 20 spent and the price have not matched the quality neithet it matched the quantity. Wouldn't recommended.. said the guy that goes to Michelin star restaurants but also enjoys the good street cooking for a fair price and I also...
Read moreVisited early evening on Saturday, the place was a little busy when we arrived but staff were very accommodating with my wheelchair and crutches.
We were a party of hospitality workers, having done both back and front of house. Mistakes were made and staff tried their hardest to sort things out.
The food was disappointing. I expected so much more of a restaurant with Gordon Ramsays name on the front. I expected Gordon Ramsay not Jamie Oliver. The menu is uninspiring, the same thing you can get at any other burger joint.
We were quick to be seated and have my wheelchair moved to a secure location and drinks were ordered quite quickly and arrived just as quickly, our food however took a lot longer and service ground to a halt as the kitchen struggled to get the food out quick enough, we had all finished our first drink and were left with empty glasses until our food eventually arrived. 3 out of 4 of the regular chips were cold and the chicken on the avo burger was inedible. Ketchup and mayo was requested but never arrived however it was hilarious that the requested hot sauce (Hotter than Hell wing sauce) was described as REALLY REALLY HOT by the server and it really was no hotter than the tobasco sauce they also had. As a matter of fact tobasco is indeed hotter.
Our second round of drinks eventually arrived when our food was just about finished.
The bill arrived pretty quickly and the server offered to remove the service charge which was quickly agreed to.
I don't intend on returning unless the menu has a huge overhaul. The staff tried their best but at the end of the day, inexperience let them down and lack of communication and food quality from the kitchen.
The only thing I really enjoyed were the onion rings even if they...
