We were on holiday in the area and around 2pm I looked up cafés nearby and this one came up with great reviews so we decided to give it a go.

Walked in at 2:15 and waited politely at the entrance. There was only one table of customers inside so I asked the gentleman behind the counter if they were still serving. His response was a very curt “no” with no further explanation.

Online it clearly says they’re open until 3pm so we were a bit taken aback by the abruptness. I later checked the reviews more carefully and realised quite a few people had mentioned the same attitude. A shame I didn’t spot that earlier really

We ended up going to The Ditsy Teacup instead and what a difference. Warm friendly service and we were happily tucking into lovely paninis by 2:40 according to my phone photos.

Won’t be returning here but at least we found a new favourite elsewhere

Reply to the owner:

Thank you for your response. I understand that kitchens have closing times, and that is completely reasonable. However, when my child and I arrived, we were simply told “we don’t serve food” with no further explanation or offer of drinks or cakes. I said “okay, thank you” and we left.

The interaction felt a little abrupt and didn’t quite feel very welcoming. Maybe he assumed I wouldn’t understand, which is a shame. Both my child and I noticed this and were a bit disappointed.

Fortunately, we found a lovely café nearby and enjoyed the rest of our afternoon. I hope future guests have a warmer experience at your place.

I appreciate you taking the time to reply. I will leave it here and hope this feedback helps improve things...

My friend and I came in for a takeaway a couple days ago, just asking if we could get a takeaway coffee, it wasn’t too busy or anything. we both work and manage a very busy coffee shop full time, and completely understand it can be frustrating sometimes. However the man with the grey hair, (looked like the owner) was so unbelievably rude and condescending from the second we came in. We always give people the benefit of the doubt but he continued to prove us wrong, pulling such obvious and unkind faces right in front of our faces to other staff and himself. The coffee was lovely, reading the reviews I’m sure other staff are lovely, and hope this was a one off and a bad day but this experience was not something we’d want to repeat, and frankly I doubt he would have done that if we weren’t two...

I'd left my mobility scooter outside while I was having lunch in the restaurant. The young girl who served me was really pleasant and helpful, and the soup and cheese on toast was nice! Then this other woman said, "Will you move your scooter, as I'm putting up Christmas decorations?" No, please or thank you, and I'm in the middle of eating my lunch, so I sad once I've had my soup as I didn't want it to go cold. She said it will only take you a minute to move it, but move it to where? She was really obnoxious, so at this point, I carried on eating my soup and...

Batchen Street Coffee Shop is my absolute go-to café in Elgin! They have the BEST coffee & the chicken, tomato, avocado & siracha mayo toastie is sooo tasty!! The cakes aren't too bad either ;) my latest favourite is the croissant with scrambled egg, bacon & maple syrup. I wasn't sure about the combination before I tried it but it was so good! The service is always amazing - the team are brilliant & really look after you when you visit. I can't recommend it enough.

Best coffee I've had in Scotland since moving up to the Highlands from Edinburgh & leaving behind my fab independent roaster regular haunt. Loved the minimalist decor, so clean. Great menu offering, friendly staff and I noticed after I left (whilst checking out their Instagram) that they had a vegan cake on offer AND are dog friendly which is pretty rare in this area. A hidden gem. Will definitely be back & recommending to friends.

lovely place, with friendly staff. Great variety of cakes and hot drinks! I had a Mocha and a Banoffee cake both were delicious, and even got a biscuit for the dog! Thanks for your reply! but having just read your post on facebook that Dogs may no longer be welcome, I very much doubt you will see me again as the only reason we visit is because you WERE dog friendly! 🐶☹
