Food : 10/10 Service 15/10 Atmosphere: 10/10
The food is incredible , you will come to try it from all around a true gem in Elgin.
However, the service is what will make you come back time and time again. Nothing overbearing or fake, just good people being personable and running a great restaurant.
Our experience; We ordered the seafood platters and half lobster thermidor which is a new addition. (Best seafood we've had, so good my partner who has an unjustly hatred of smoked salmon tried some and she loved it) Sourced that day locally obviously dependent on the catch of the day, the chef came out and apologised that they didn't have crab claws so asked if he could substitute for an extra langoustine, furthermore said he felt the lobster he had left was a bit small for his standards to do half, so would serve whole at no extra cost.
Secondly: The waitress who took our order and many other tables on that busy night, stopped to give extra service to a child. They wanted to see the deserts that are stored above the counter and out of easy sight for a child. Asking the child first, she lifted them up to pick from a vast selection. The child politely asked for a strawberry with it, not sure if it was supposed to be part of the desert or not, but regardless she said of course and cut up a fresh strawberry for I'm sure her happiest customer...
Read moreI was really disappointed. The first impression was the place looks great, cosy but modern. The cost of drinks was probably the most I've ever spent in Elgin at £4 each for a coke. I was one of the first to order during the lunch time service but ended up being one of the last to receive their food. When it arrived we were given one dish and had to wait for the other. My neice had the carbonara (first dish to be served) and the garlic over powered the whole dish. I had the "special" cheese and bacon loaded fries. There was nothing special about them, the chips were unseasoned, with small bacon bits and melted mozzarella. They were very dry, I was asking by the server when they dropped off the meal if they could get me anything else but I hadn't tried the food yet so didn't ask for sauce. When I did try to catch the eye of a server to ask for some I was ignored so had to approach the kitchen to ask. The food was only just ok and definitely not worth the £30.85 price ticket. There are some fantastic local places to eat which offer much better quality food and value for money. The service definitely did not warrant a tip on this occasion. Overall I will not be recommending...
Read moreFirst and last time having a meal at Planta Pizzeria. Soggy bottom and burnt crust. Pizza was swimming in sauce / tomatoes if my pepperoni wanted to cross my pizza it would have wanted a boat.
Service was mediocre. Shown to our seats with a wave of the arm. Then tatty menus handed to us , unless they were going for a vintage look. Order taken. once order was delivered that was the last time we saw a waitress. If one had come over like normaly happens in restaurants to see if everything is ok I would have highlighted the problems then, rather than at end of meal.
As a diabetic I require to take insulin and once I have taken it the clock starts to count down to a hypo caused by taking insulin and not getting my meal un time or having to ask for a replacement due to poor prep ect. Im a trained chef I've worked in pizzeria's across the UK as well as some of the top restaurants in the highlands of Scotland. I heard good things about them so thought I would...
