Me and my husband were in Inverness from Monday 6th until Friday 10th We had such an amazing break, everything was perfect and my husband took me to The Caledonian Hotel for lunch on the penultimate day of our stay to round off our amazing relaxing break Wish we'd never went as it really put a big 'dampening' on our last full day in the Highlands Capital I had fish with chips and mushy peas with a side of bread and butter The best part of my meal was the bread and butter Chips were OK but the mushy peas were sparse and the tiny amount I got were cold The fish didn't taste nice at all When it was getting cooked, it was put into the oil too soon. I know this as worked in similar (but with amazing food) establishment. The fish had sank to the bottom of the pan and when they served it, it had the filter holes clearly visible, and rock hard on the fish My husbands meal was disgusting and extremely disappointing He had what was supposed to be a 10 oz steak with mushrooms onion rings and chips and peas The mushrooms were sparse. 3 at the most. Couldn't say how much though as they had been sliced so thin. The onion rings were almost laughable as there was 2!!! And one was medium sized, the 2nd was from the smallest part of the onion. The peas were dried out The steak,,,,where do I start? Firstly, it definitely was not 10 oz. I'd be surprised if it was 5 oz Secondly, it was un chewable Thirdly it was fatty Fourthly, it wasn't served as a steak should be served, on a hot platter, still with a little bit of sizzling and mouthwatering aroma None of that happened It was served on a cold plate (the same as what every dish was served on) No sizzling aroma was coming from it as it was laid in front of him I have never saw my husband leave steak on his plate, or have to take it from his mouth with his napkin as it was un edible Most of our meal, with 2 soft drinks were left on our table and we left. ÂŁ32 spent and we were disgusting with the whole order. Definitely won't be back and definitely won't recommend anyone to go there as there was nothing edible The jug of iced tap water was good!! The only reason I give food 1 star was because there wasn't an...
Read moreHonestly...this place has died a death in the last 7 years, the floor is like walking on partially dried glue and it's the ENTIRE floor, from the ground floor to the third floor toilet.
The service, while friendly, is extremely poor, the communication is not there, the food came before any drinks (we had to go to the bar to get the drinks after all the meals came...) and no offering of cutlery beforehand or afterwards.
The food, well, Burger and Chips portion was tiny, even for the reasonably small price it cost. The Chicken your way was a chicken breast and chips with your choice of toppings, cheese, Mexican hot sauce and bbq sauce, only 1 of which was actually given on the dish and the chicken was really dry. Lastly, BBQ Wings and Steak Pie, the BBQ Wings were actually amazing, the sauce was nice, though it could of done with a little more but the chicken was moist and crispy. The Steak Pie though, the pastry was over cooked and dry as hell, the chips were overcooked and the veg was not even worth writing about. The steak itself was nicely cooked but the gravy...the gravy is not red wine in the slightest and if it is then its been cooked to hell and drowned out by stock, its not fresh and I'm sorry to the chefs but if its home-made it's bloody awful, the gravy was like black jelly, far too thick and the flavour was that of cheap stock cube and it was glossy.
All in all, one of the worst meals we've had in Inverness in 20 years and believe me that's an...
Read moreWere on holiday here from England. Three of us came in for food. We found out our servers name is Faye, who was amazing, always on the go and never seems to stop. Always with a smile and very polite.
However, the food wasn't up to standard! I had a mixed grill and asked for the beef to be medium....it was medium rare!
My wife had the vegan burger option because she suffers with lactose intolerance, it was not vegan or there was cross contamination, this meal had the bad effect on my wife, who needed a toilet constantly for approximately the next 3 hours!!
The batter on the fish my father in law had was dry, he couldn't finish the fish!
We also overheard the manager speaking badly about another member of staff to another staff member, in full view of the public. Apparently, she's not upto scratch and won't be there long, apparently she's new.
We also witnessed a lady, who is possibly the managers wife/partner, go to serve a customer who just walked in the pub despite us waiting at the bar to be served!
We were eventually served by a lady who didn't offer a smile was not polite and was not courteous and obviously mistakes were made on our order.
On this basis, I cant recommend this place. All in all not a very pleasant...
