I'm absolutely gutted to be writing this as we love cranberry's and it was one of our first dates. Good points first, the manager/owner (guy with glasses) was lovely and welcoming, there was a waitress with red hair who was also lovely, but she went on a break just as she sat us down (absolutely fair enough). The waitress (younger with blonde hair and lots of rings on) who took over completely ruined our entire experience. We waited for a while, then my partner ended up going up to order rather than table service. She gave me the wrong coffee but thankfully fixed it before I drank it. She then came back with our cutlery and just threw it into the middle of the table, we laughed this off. Then came back with our food not long after and then also just threw that down at us? This point we were confused but still trying to laugh it off. What really was the final straw was there was two women sat next to us, the same waitress was so polite to them, placed their napkins down and their cutlery placed nicely next to them. Everyone else was nice, but she clearly had a random issue with us, or at least that's how it came across. And as a result we will not be back and we left feeling upset. Sorry to the manager as he and other staff were really nice but you're going to lose a lot of business with horrendous and rude service...
Read moreA bit of an unexpected place this. In the heart of Merchant City, lies Cranberries. A cafe on the corner of Wilson Street. It's not a typical place for where it is. It's...dated. It's not classical in its style nor outright contemporary and modern. It looks like it's stuck in the seventies. I don't wish to bash it because the coffee we had was good as was the cake. The apple and cinnamon tart was not only generous in size but very juicy and tasty. Plenty of apple and cinnamon in between the layers of pastry. And I think I found the reason for its decor. There were quite a lot of elderly people in there and I think that's who Cranberries is for. For those of the older generations who maybe don't like the more elaborate or modern styled places and just want a cafe that's cosy and familiar to them. It's not to my taste but what I had was perfectly adequate. I won't be going back not because I don't like the place or the service was bad. All was well in those regards. It's just not for me but for those who it is for, I'm sure they'll take comfort from knowing a place like...
Read moreThe food is good which makes up for the service. The service is incredibly slow. Not slow as in they're busy, they do notice you but they ignore you. You get seated as soon as you walk through the door. Then they leave you with the menu for over 25 minutes (I was by myself) before eventually coming over. This is my third time coming here where the service hasn't been very good. Last time I got kicked out as soon as I put my fork down because I had been in there for "too long" when only because they took forever to actually serve me. Food last time was good but this time it wasn't. I had mashed avocado and I kept chewing the skin which was still attached. I asked for a latte and they gave me a Cappachino but called it a latte! I've learnt my lesson. I won't be...
