I recently had the pleasure of visiting The Wilson Street Pantry, and let me tell you, it was an experience that left me absolutely amazed! From the moment we stepped inside, we were greeted by the warm and friendly smile of Laura, the front house person who welcomed us in. Her genuine hospitality and attention to detail set the tone for what turned out to be an exceptional dining experience.
Now, let's talk about the food. I ordered the sunny side eggs with bacon and links sausage on sourdough bread, and let me just say, it was a breakfast masterpiece. The eggs were perfectly cooked, with the yolks oozing out just the right amount of golden goodness. The bacon was crispy and flavorful, and the links sausage added a delightful savory note to the dish. And that sourdough bread? It was the epitome of perfection—crunchy on the outside, yet soft and chewy on the inside.
But it wasn't just the taste that impressed me; it was the presentation as well. Each plate that came out of the kitchen was a work of art, meticulously arranged with a creative flair. The attention to detail was evident in every aspect of the meal, from the garnishes to the carefully crafted sauces. It was clear that the chefs at The Wilson Street Pantry take immense pride in their culinary creations.
What really stood out to me, though, was the ambiance of the place. The cozy interior, adorned with tasteful decor and comfortable seating, made me feel right at home. The soft lighting and gentle background music created a relaxed and inviting atmosphere, perfect for enjoying a leisurely breakfast with friends or family.
And speaking of the staff, I have to commend Laura once again. Her warm and friendly demeanor made us feel like valued guests throughout our entire visit. She was attentive, knowledgeable, and went above and beyond to ensure our dining experience was nothing short of exceptional. Her passion for hospitality was palpable, and it added an extra layer of enjoyment to our meal.
In conclusion, The Wilson Street Pantry is a hidden gem that deserves all the praise it can get. The combination of incredible food, impeccable presentation, and a welcoming atmosphere makes it a standout dining destination. And with Laura at the front house, you can expect a level of service that is second to none. Whether you're in the mood for a hearty breakfast or a leisurely brunch, this place is an absolute must-visit. Trust me, you won't be...
Read moreWent for Sunday brunch- book beforehand as it was packed before 12pm! Luckily it was quite a nice day and the FOH staff reserved a table for us for 25 mins time. When we arrived back at our time slot we did have to wait 10 mins or so until we got to our table, but the server have us menus to look at whilst we waited to speed things up a bit.
Brunch menu was short and simple, but options to add extras like avocado, sausage, haggis, halloumi etc to whatever you were having if you fancied a bit extra.
I opted for the haggis benedict (eggs benedict but haggis instead of bacon) whilst my friend went for eggs royale and added avocado to it. 2 pots of tea ordered too.
As it was busy we were probably waiting about 20 mins between ordering and getting our food.
When the server set it down he said "veggie haggis for you". I didn't ask for the veggie haggis specifically, unsure if it's how I asked for it, maybe I said I'll have haggis benedict or something? Can't remember, but either way it was still really nice and tbh I've had veggie haggis before and could barely tell the difference! Eggs poached beautifully, sauce was thick and creamy with a really decent portion of haggis.
My friend had a hefty portion of avocado along with hers, plenty of salmon too. She commented that the avocado was pretty heavily salted though.
Tea served in nice individual pots and done enough for 2 and a half cups.
We asked for dessert menu when finished but as we had been there for a while between waiting for table/food there was another booking coming in so we were offered desserts to go.
I had the almond brownie which was rich and gooey with a crunch on top. My friend went for the server's recommendation of chocolate banana loaf which was heated so the chocolate was oozing and came with a side of mascarpone cream.
Good service, although a bit slow, and nice food. Not bad prices, worked out at £22.50 for two pots of tea, the two egg meals plus the...
Read moreMy daughter and I were fortunate to get a table without a booking—thanks to a couple of no-shows. Shortly after we arrived, other customers were politely turned away as the place filled up quickly.
The menu offered plenty of tempting options. We considered the blackboard special of Hot Smoked Salmon and Caper Mousse (£13) but opted instead for French Toast with maple syrup and bacon (£10.50) and Scrambled Eggs on sourdough toast (£7), with additional sausages (£3) and halloumi (£3).
For drinks, we chose tea, which arrived in individual teapots accompanied by a charming small glass bottle of milk.
Service was polite and efficient. The toilets, though located down a slightly intimidating flight of corrugated stairs, were clean.
The scrambled eggs had a firm texture while still tasting buttery and creamy—described by my daughter as the best she’d ever tasted, though she admitted she doesn't usually like scrambled eggs and rarely eats them. (Had I not been enjoying my food so much, this slight against my cooking might have sent me into a depression.) The sausages and halloumi were tasty additions, though the portion size was already generous, so the scrambled eggs alone would have been sufficient.
The French toast was also enjoyed, though it, along with the bacon, was a bit too crispy for our liking. Thankfully, the maple syrup helped to soften things up. It was a large plate of food, more than enough to fuel us for a long day ahead.
Verdict: A great breakfast option. I would be a firm regular if I lived closer to Wilson...
