After an exhausting 8-hour drive from London to Glasgow, my wife and I were pretty hungry, we decided to check out a Turkish restaurant we had found online, boasting the title of "Best Turkish Restaurant in Glasgow." I walked in and spoke to the owner managed to secure a reservation. He instructed us to come back in half an hour. Upon our arrival at the restaurant, we were immediately greeted by a lively belly dance performance accompanied by vibrant music. The energy in the air was exciting, and we felt our excitement growing. We were directed to the upper floor for our seating, and our table for two was rather snug. Hoping for more elbow room to accommodate our large order, I politely inquired about moving to a larger table. Unfortunately, our request was politely declined, despite the presence of vacant tables nearby throughout our stay. Once we had placed our orders, we settled in with eager anticipation for our food. The arrival of the platter for two, priced at a rather hefty £47.95, should have been a moment of sheer delight. Unfortunately, it fell short of our expectations. Despite its visually appealing presentation, the flavours failed us. The disappointment were the lamb chops, a far cry from the tender and succulent experience we had envisioned. Instead, they turned out to be disappointingly dry and required much more chewing than we had bargained for. The lamb ribs and chicken wings managed to salvage the experience they weren’t the best we had but were edible at least. This prompted us to draw comparisons with a similar Turkish restaurant in London, (Kervan Sofrasi). There, we get a wider verity in our bigger platter for two at a lower cost and finger licking food. As if the dining experience hadn't been challenging enough, the table size also posed a problem, barely able to hold the dishes we had ordered (mix platter for two/extra main of lamb ribs/drinks/ the bread that they give/ drinks and water). Our table was finally changed after the waiter noticed our need for more space as he did not have enough space to put the dished on the table we were eventually reseated at the empty table next to us – a table that had been vacant the entire time. When it came time to settle the bill, I noticed a note in the bill book encouraging customers to reach out to management in the event of a less-than-satisfactory experience. Seizing the moment, I shared our disappointments with the waiter. His response lacked the understanding we had hoped for, as he casually assured us that most customers left with positive impressions of their food. Before we left, I made it a point to speak with the manager, aiming to provide candid feedback. Unfortunately, his response left much to be desired. There was no apology, just a casual thanks for bringing our concerns to his attention. His lack of engagement was disheartening. Reflecting on our visit to the self-proclaimed "Best Turkish Restaurant in Glasgow," we couldn't shake the sense of disappointment. The promising beginning was overshadowed by lack of flavours, indifferent service, and a managerial response that fell short of addressing our grievances. Perhaps most notably, throughout our entire time at the restaurant, no one took a moment to ask us if everything was okay. Our hopes for a memorable culinary experience were,...
Read moreHad an absolutely terrible experience here on Saturday. My friends came here to get food after the Pride march. When they arrived, they were seated outside, despite the inside being practically empty. Due to the way the canopy was set up, my friends who had their young baby with them had to sit their pram in the rain. I came to join them and ordered my food (I had the only vegan option on the menu and it was dry and bland, nowhere near worth the amount they are charging). They also served me a non vegan starter and seemed annoyed that I didn’t want it.
Another party left and said they had been trying to pay their bill for ages so that we could have their table and get the baby out of the rain. We started to move our things over when an incredibly rude woman appeared from nowhere and started screaming at us, calling us disrespectful and telling us to have some consideration (they didn’t have any consideration for the fact a baby was sat out in the rain). I asked her to calm down and she stormed away and we moved back to our original table. By this time, the baby was crying and my friend had to try and calm her down. After about 10 mins, a waiter came out and asked if she wanted a seat.
The party who did get the table we had tried to move to were horrified and did actually offer us their table but by this point we felt extremely uncomfortable. I wasn’t given any cutlery so I had to use my friend’s spoon to eat until I could get a hold of someone to get me cutlery.
It made the whole atmosphere in the restaurant really uncomfortable and ruined an otherwise great day. My friend went elsewhere to feed the baby who was now very upset and we quickly settled up and left.
This is no way to treat customers, if we had been asked nicely not to move tables that would have been fine but we were screamed at like we were children. The waiter who was serving us apologised for the (I assume) manager being rude but we didn’t see her again. I could tell he also felt really uncomfortable and he also lost out on a tip because of her.
I would have appreciated something to be knocked off the bill or for the rude woman to come and apologise but we weren’t compensated in anyway.
I also can’t shake that there may have been a homophobic element to this as anyone else wearing rainbow colours were also seated outside.
Absolutely disgusting establishment and I would not recommend anyone to go here. My friends did enjoy their food but none of us will be back and would encourage anyone...
Read moreVisited efes for a eid dinner nice location I think it was a old pub before transformed into a restaurant has old wooden decor and flowers dripping from the ceiling not very interesting like being in a old ship however as we have learned decor isn’t everything the food is most important the menu is based on Turkish foods with a good verity to choose from prices are a bit high however this is expected in the city centre and Turkish cuisine. Kids menu is simple could do with some more choices (chicken nuggets really, not the only place that does this)
We didn’t have the best of experiences we ordered a mixed grill the rice bed spoon had a hair wrapped in it looked like it was from the waitress, they where kind enough to exchange it the second replacement the rice was clumped together in bits meat was delicious well cooked with good flavour not sure how to take the experience the hair could happen to any restaurant simple procedures can prevent this from happening a food quality check before departure to a table and hair nets one the hair I can forgive the rice I dont think I should as it did happen it would be a injustice if not mentioned staff where polite a bit rushed around even though it wasn’t that busy (slow down take the extra time)
For a starter we got the mixed hummus etc was nice enough some sauces where a bit bland could be smoked more where possible.
The pide breads where nice simple had a good taste definitely recommend we kept the drinks simple soft drinks not sure if they even had mock tails also never had desserts felt rushed so we didn’t bother.
On reflection apart from the meat and pide didn’t come out of there thinking wow that was amazing just dropped a £100 and moved on
Overall on reflection experience was not the best meat was good and other dishes a bit overpriced and could have better quality food coming out of the kitchen. (Mixed grill and rice after replacing where very nice if you ignore the faults...
