The food is not Authentic and so, I would say highly overrated and overpriced...so I would suggest if you are on a time crunch or hoping to eat wonderful Indian food this is not the place for you. The food here is definitely edible but not authentic.
We went in so hungry after walking for 1.5 miles seeing the 4.5 rating. As soon as we entered a person asked us if we have a booking, we said no...and he seated us in a spot which is not booked. 10 mins later he came and took the order. In this meanwhile I went to washroom and came back..and my friend was asking how long it is going to take to make pomfret fish and the waiter said around 40-45 mins, so he decided to order something else...the waiter assured us everything else will take less time. So we have decided to place the order.
35 mins later and order is still not served but the food was being served to the customers who came after us...we were patient..and then another guy comes and says.... I wasn't here if not I would not have taken you guys in as we are short of staff....he says this to people who have been waiting for 45 mins and I didn't understand how I should take it...should I be greatful...and jump with joy thinking that at least they let us in to that great restaurant...
Anyways after listening this I was upset...seeing my face ..5 mins later he comes and says...just 3 mins and then again after 5 mins he says the same....by this point we didn't want to be disrespectful and leave as they would be preparing food...but at least we were hopeful that we could have good food. In the end almost after 1hr of wait they served us...
But after tasting the biryani and tandoori roti's and the chickpea curry....one thing for sure ...either the chef has never tasted Indian food or they are taking advantage of people who never had Indian food as they do not know how authentic Indian food tastes like. I have definitely eaten in most expensive restaurants...where the food is worth every penny and also in ultra cheap restaurants where the food is so great, it's hard to describe in words....
No words to describe people like this taking advantage of everything and also being very rude saying Asians want to spend less and get 5 star...
Read moreMadras Cafe Glasgow, nestled conveniently near St Enoch Shopping Centre and just a stone's throw from Buchanan Place, is a true culinary gem that brings the authentic flavours of South India to the heart of Glasgow. Its prime location, easily accessible from Central Station and close to the hustle and bustle of the city centre (and even a Tesco for any last-minute needs), makes it an ideal spot for both locals and visitors seeking a vibrant and delicious dining experience. I had the pleasure of visiting on August 1st, 2025, and it certainly lived up to its reputation. Walking in, you're immediately greeted by the enticing aromas of spices, setting the stage for the feast to come. The atmosphere is lively and welcoming, though it's worth noting that its popularity means you might occasionally encounter a wait for a table – a testament to the quality of the food. Trust me, the wait is absolutely worth it for the taste sensation that awaits. The menu is extensive, but the star of the show for many, including myself, is undoubtedly the dosa. Crispy, perfectly golden, and served with a trio of chutneys and a fragrant sambar, it’s a delightful journey for the taste buds. Beyond this classic, the cheese chili naan is an absolute revelation – soft, chewy, and bursting with a perfect balance of cheesy richness and a gentle kick of chili. For those who enjoy non-vegetarian options, their offerings are equally impressive, featuring tender meats expertly spiced and cooked to perfection, showcasing the depth and variety of Indian cuisine. What truly enhances the experience is the fantastic value. Despite the high quality and generous portions, the prices are very reasonable, making it an excellent choice for a satisfying meal without breaking the bank. Overall, Madras Cafe Glasgow offers an exceptional dining experience. It's a place where delicious food, a buzzing atmosphere, and great value combine to create a memorable meal every time. It's quickly become one of my go-to recommendations for anyone craving authentic and flavourful Indian...
Read moreTo be frank I gave it a lot of thought before writing about this interesting visit I had to this restaurant today which I picked up specifically from the list of Glasgow South Indian restaurants during my holidays, simply due to the fact that I was craving for good South Indian style food. Yes! The Chef did a great job by preparing a very tasty chicken biriyani. Quantity was great. Worth every penny.Though I didn’t see you, I thank you so much for this. I was right to choose this restaurant for the food.
BUT!!!!!! Restaurant is not just about the food. I am from south of India living in the UK. Another reason for picking up South Indian restaurant is that you feel at home when you are there. As soon as I finished the Biriyani, I was given the bill. The waiter came with the card machine straight away. I told him that I was not offered a dessert menu which I was expecting( always my favourite part in dining) as any other restaurant. I got the weirdest answer from this waiter that “our people” ( I am not sure if he meant just keralites or all of Indians), usually spend the minimum amount and for us dessert menu will be offered only if we ask. He added that in the Google review section it’s always “our people” who gave the bad reviews. I’ve been to several South Indian and Kerala restaurants in the UK and I’ve always felt welcomed and spent some great time. This was my first ever experience where I was treated differently by my own people due to the only fact that I was one among them. It’s disturbing and disheartening. I would strongly suggest before you complain about “our people” giving bad reviews to the customers, you should seriously consider looking into how to treat everyone the same, Indian or non Indian. Customers expect minimum of that from service point of view. I had to bring it to notice hoping that this will never happen to another Indian in the future. This waiter( who sadly is also from south of India) needs to learn about basics of service and STOP treating brown skinned people...
