Loved the meal, ambience and service. Visited on 16th Dec as my husband was treating me to a pre Xmas meal. This particular venue was in a past life a Spanish restaurant and is small and bijoux. Can't fault the service as we were welcomed as soon as we walked in. Lots of small tables so if you go in with a larger group then you can be accommodated. The staff gave us plenty of time to look at the menu and even though it was very busy they still took the time to chat about the menu and in general. Special mentions to the tall, dark and handsome waiter from South Africa and the manager Luke. There was another young lady but she was quite quiet but good at her job. My husband didn't recognise any of the draught beers but chose a lager initially and I had a large Pinot Grigio (,lovely and Italian). We decided on starter/mains and I had the intriguing pickled beetroot/goats cheese bruschetta, with beetroot puree, balsamic vinegar and cucumber gel. It was served on 2 large triangular pieces of toasted bread and the goats cheese was so creamy.. My husband began with the haggis served in a large sausage shape with turnip puree and a large potato nest on its side. It looked lovely, I tasted some of the crisp potato nest and it was good. Next came the Cote d' bouef (ribeye on the bone for my husband), not the biggest I've seen but a very ample portion with a big portion of the biggest skin on chips I've ever seen, half a grilled tomato, Portobello mushroom, side salad and peppercorn sauce (included in the price). My husband had chosen medium to well done and he declared it like butter melting in the mouth.. I went for the 454 grammes Sirloin (medium rare as recommended) with all the same trimmings. I'm afraid that I could only manage 2 of the fries as my steak was so big and cooked to perfection. I could not discern any flavour to the salad dressing so left that on the plate. I had to ask for a fresh knife though as my plate kept moving around on the tabletop ( thought initially that it was the knife) but when I spoke to Luke the manager he has said that several people have mentioned this previously and that he will be organising placemats in future. Halfway through the meal my husband ordered another draught beer and was given a taster, it was darker, sweeter and tasted of hops but he said it was nice. Loved the music of an up tempo 80/90's theme as its close to Xmas and there was a large party in. The clientele varied in age, gender and had couples, friends and all ages. Would like to return for a quieter, more intimate meal. Overall we would return. Thumbs up from us to all the staff.....
Read moreCame to use a gift voucher today. Added on starters on barra scallops and Scotch duck egg. The mains included in the voucher were Sunday roast with a glass prosecco l. We added a bottle of rioja. The food and service were perfect. We couldn't have asked for more. Every bite of all our dishes was a bit of heaven to the palate. Our waiter Mark was attentive, personable and made our visit perfect. The main restaurant is comfortable and stylish. I could work my way through the menu and wine list a hundred times and imagine every dish is as tas6 as the food we ate today. But I won't be back. After our main course I went to the toilet. It was a 2 cubicle with communal whb mixed sex facility on entering, a very big man pushed out past me almost knocking me off my feet. The smell he had left was atrocious. I used the toilet only because I absolutely needed to. After being as quick as I could 8 left to find a young man outside posing and preening. I had to leave without washing my hands As a woman who has been affected by male violence, this experience terrified me and I felt so vulnerable. There is no dignity whatsoever for women in m8xed sex toilets and this spoiled an otherwise brilliant dining experience. We left without ordering dessert. My husband seeing my evident distress as I came back from the toilet. Great food and service but no respect for the privacy and dignity of women or men who need a private space when...
Read moreMe & my wife don’t get out much for dinner so when we do it’s so important to us that we select the right place.
Honestly this may have been one the the single greatest meals I’ve had in my life time.
Apon arriving I felt the restaurant was small and was slightly concerned with the table size.
The staff made the experience feel intimate without being intimidating.
The food, WOW. I opted for the scotch egg and sirloin and my wife went for the soup (parsnip and lemon) & filet.
Both of us after each bite shared a look of joy and can honestly say this was the greatest steak I have had in a long time.
After a toilet break I was smiling from ear to ear because instead of the usual elevator music the toilets had a tape of Scottish comedian Kevin bridges playing, I felt this was a very nice touch as not only did it make the toilet break a fun time but it was a nod to Glaswegian culture in a restaurant that initially felt it was taking its self to seriously this help to set the atmosphere as a place that takes the food and customer experience seriously but maybe not its self.
My only feed back was the lack of a cocktail menu on the drinks sections, I would have loved to have washed this down with a negroni, I’m sure if I asked they would have helped but without a clear cocktail menu I was apprehensive
