Do not visit if you have allergies.
Booked a meal with my wife and children here on a Friday night due to rave reviews. We ordered a chateaubriand for my wife and kids, I ordered a fillet steak. When we booked I advised my daughter having a severe nut allergy- was assured this would not be an issue but was logged on the booking. Food arrives - my steak was not even lukewarm. It was not glossy and juicy looking- instead totally dry and devoid of any moisture. Very expensive so I sent it back. Within a minute it was returned having had some hot butter or similar poured over. It was still cold. However this because insignificant iwhen my daughter stated something had nuts. Her face immediately became swollen - normally the stage before breathing difficulties followed by anaphylaxis. Asked waitress if anything had nuts - no was the answer. I examined the salad and could see pesto drizzled over. Asked her to check the pesto ingredients- “oh yea it’s made with cashews… do they count? Couldn’t be more blasé about the situation. We administered medication and asked for the bill. She turned very sour. Their was no apology. No acknowledgment of the danger they had put her in through sheer ignorance which cannot be accepted when you hold someone’s life in your hands. They stopped engaging with us as soon as they realised they were at fault. And dropped the bill and wouldn’t come near. We were desperate to leave and get to hospital.
Any establishment serving food has a duty of care to ensure they know the ingredients and allergy possibilities. Nut allergy is one of the most common and can have the most sever consequences. To be treated with disdain and no responsibility taken is just unbelievable to me. This attitude combined with cold £50 steak meant the groups of people smoking inside the porch wasn’t important.
Overall I’m disgusted with the attitude towards a dangerous mistake on their part and yeah the steak should have been good but they didn’t own that issue either.
My advice would be to avoid if you have any allergy sufferers within your party as this lot aren’t interested in ensuring they understand the ingredients and related safety of the...
Read moreOh I love steaks and this place’s food certainly didn’t disappoint. Oh arrival we were greeted by a friendly member of staff and she took us to our table. My wife and I were the only ones there but more people did arrive shortly after. The menu isn’t too extensive but to me that means quality over quantity. We did notice that one of our knives was a little dirty but a quick wipe sorted that out. The other waitress that served us was also nice, although a little rougher. The food was brilliant! We both ordered the ribeye steak (cannot remember the exact name) and it was so tender and delicious. All the accompaniments were also really nice. My wife got haggis filled Yorkshire pudding and I got roasted Rosemary potatoes. The highlight for me was the chimichurriIf sauce. It was easily the best I’ve had (not had it many times) and tasted delightful. Our desserts were also very nice. I got the raspberry soufflé and my wife got the honeycomb meringue thing. Both of which were quite unique but very nice. I really like the portions were excessive that you get at most places these days but big enough to satisfy you. Our dinner was responsibly priced considering the quality of the meal. It would be wrong of me if I did mention some negatives, even if they are so minor. I was being picky, I noticed that the waitress that served us was a little lazy when putting the cutlery down as they weren’t straight (the small details are important especially at a expensive restaurant). When asking what a particular sauce was she didn’t appear too familiar with it and didn’t sell it very well. We just had water at our table but I noticed that they had limited supply of alcohol as another table had to get offered something else as their original request wasn’t fulfilled. Despite these minor negatives we still had a great experience and would definitely recommend it to anyone...
Read moreAs a steakhouse I’m struggling to comprehend and come to terms with the experience we had at Mini Grill. There are number of things that made for a unforgettable first experience. We’ll start with the quality of the steak served. Surprisingly, it was very poor on a number of fronts. The flavour of both steaks, which are advertised and sold as 35 day dry aged, one filet, the other sirloin, lacked any depth of flavour whatsoever, which leads to the point that neither steak had been seasoned in any shape or form. I honestly do not think these cuts of meat had been hung for 35 days. Beef hung for that period of time is undeniably lip smacking. In all honesty, I’ve bought supermarket offerings that have packed more punch and fared a lot better in terms of tenderness and flavour than what was served.
The filet was chewy with a lot of sinew throughout. The sirloin, which is the beefiest of all cuts was devoid of any flavour at all. The accompaniments were also sadly underwhelming, the mushrooms, whilst flavourful and the tastiest thing on the plate were just the right side of cold and the salad leaves had wilted. The cold soggy fries were something we’d never seen before, I’m assuming they were reheated? Feedback was given, sadly the £20 refunded in voucher form, and not to my credit card which had paid the deposit, was done so with a 2 week expiration date, which is of no use as we are now out of the country on holiday. Edit- As prompted by my wife, we also ordered a side of mac and cheese, one rule of cooking pasta is salt the water or chicken stock for depth. As for its flavour it was sadly bland...
