Sad to share a very unhealthy series of experiences with Rishi's restaurant. Craving for Indian food has pulled me and my friends to Rishis. Appreciate the food and effort in bringing the South Indian taste to Dundee. The spread of delicacies is really good. But the back-to-back ill-treatment received from the restaurant staff is really disappointing. Unfortunately to have fallen the victims of a very bad attitude and ignorance in terms of not facilitating table for dine-in, quoting we haven't pre-booked and poor attention while serving was the first couple of instances. It can be well understood the priorities or preferences for pre-booked customers, especially during busy hours. But, the unprofessional treatment was shooing us off the restaurant. The recent instance was for a birthday dinner when a table for 5 was pre-booked. On reaching the restaurant and mentioning the booking made, a very cold response from the staff-in-charge made us wait and even re-confirmed our booking out of a suspicious look, which made all 5 of us uncomfortable. We were charged an additional 10 pounds at the end, as a service charge, asking of which the staff revised and produced a new bill without intimating what it was and no further communication. It was very unpleasant during our 3 out of 4 visits made to this restaurant. Indian students visiting this restaurant deserve normal treatment like any other, in my opinion. Also, with the good dosas, try to serve fresh chutney at room temperature, not...
Read moreHaving been regular visitors to Rishi's in Glasgow, we were keen to try it's sister restaurant in Dundee.
First impressions count. And the Dundee restaurant is far more pleasant on the eye than it's Glaswegian counterpart. Large windows let in plenty of light. The restaurant is very tastefully decorated and the staff were very welcoming.
I wasn't hit with the same wall of aroma that I usually feel at the Glasgow restaurant. It really hits you as soon as you enter. But that did not mean the food was of a lesser standard.
To start, for a slight change we went for the Indian/Mexican fusion starters, chicken tikka nachos and the keema tacos. Both were absolutely delicious. The marriage of flavours and textures complimented each dish perfectly. Although, the chicken/gobi 65 is a firm favourite of ours also.
We then moved onto Rishi's speciality. Dosas. My wife had a masala dosa with potato and vegetables. I had a chicken dosa. I did think that the chicken in my dosa was slightly drier than I was used to at the Glasgow restaurant, but as usual there were plenty of chutneys and a pot of curry sauce to drizzle over it. The Dosas themselves were crispy and soft at the same time and we thoroughly enjoyed them.
Service was top notch. Staff incredibly friendly and efficient.
Lovely atmosphere in the restaurant with everyone enjoying the food and company.
Would definitely recommend for top end authentic South...
Read moreBeing of Pakistani origin, and from the birthplace of Chicken Tikka Masala...which is Glasgow...I definitely know my 'desi' food! The starters where good...but this is the first establishment that I have experienced that doesn't offer complimentary white and red sauce for the enjoyment of the food. When I asked the waiter for riata (mint yogurt with coriander) he brought me mayonnaise....what the hell...or shall I say 'goodness gracious me' is this an Indian restaurant...or Macdonalds! As the wife was with me, I didn't want to make a fuss...so just looked forward to the main dish. This was chicken dopiaz...which means chicken with 2 onions. Also ordered tandoori naan and pilau rice. The naan at £2.25, I expected a large stretched oval...like I get in Glasgow. It was a small round thing, very flaky which shows it has been reheated...and overpriced. The plau rice was white with multicolour food dye, with green cardamom seeds. We thought they'd made a mistake and brought us sweet rice. So complained...but the staff were mostly polish and didn't have a clue, so asked to see the chef. He was called Jay and was Indian. He defended his creation...amd quite frankly insulted my intelligence. (see photo) Anyway had enough...asked for the bill less the 'sweet' rice and left. Would I recommend or go...
