We were a group of 5 pax visiting " the oldest pub in Glasgow " we sat by the bar, talking to one another and had ordered a few rounds of drinks . We were having a pleasant time with each other, not being loud, just talking, not falling onto tables or other people. My friend from Amsterdam tried to order more drinks when one of the bar men came and said " your group is banned from service " . We immediately thought he was joking . He was not . When my friend TRIED to ask what was going on he was cut off . When he finally got to ask " why " the barmen pointed at the direction of one of our friends that was in the WC and said " he' s drunk " , another friend stood by the bar " he's drunk " and " that other guy is also drunk " ( also in the WC). "And if you argue (??) With me more I'll call the bouncer " powertripping much ? Mate, surprise , you're selling ALCO-HOL, what do you think ALCO-HOL does to people, make them sober ? We hadn't caused any inpleasantness towards anyone . We were having good chat amongst ourselves. If you have a problem with ppl having fun I'd suggest you work at a funeral home. What a sad end to an evening with friends from out of town . To the manager . Maybe sort this staff out, he was the only one having unknown issues with us. I've worked in the hospitality field for over 20 years never have I encountered this. The way your staff spoke to us was out of line . Completely out of line . We left and I for one won't return nor recommend...
Read moreTop class service, atmosphere and service with a smile!!!
I have heard time and time again about the Oldest Pub in Glasgow and it's out of world mac n cheese and it certainly didn't disappoint!!! I even went twice in one week, Julie and her lovely team deliver fast, efficient and friendly professional service and I first took my mum there and they really something for everyone. I can only eat small portions due to surgery a number of years back and although they also have a menu with normal portions, they also do small bites which is fantastic and they are super reasonably priced!!! For example £5.00 for a small mac n cheese which again was piping hot and out of this world!!!!
I love how there is no judgement for the size of your party, i.e. small, large or solo and what you order, and the atmosphere is chilled and relaxed and they often have deals, fab entertainment nights and an amazing venue which really adds to an occasion.
They make you feel like part of the SLOANS family which is lovely and please note it is one you cannot not try when visiting Glasgow.
Finally it is card only and they cater to all dietary requirements and have an extensive range of alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks, so no one feels left out.
This is my go to place when visiting Glasgow, just give me and excuse and thank you guys for your hospitality and warm welcome and...
Read moreWarm cosy wee pub with nice food. The haggis neeps and tattie pakora starter with peppercorn dip, it was 3 small balls, felt like it should ha been at least 4, however flavour wise it was incredible, as were the haggis pies. Chicken tender starter was a bit dry but still tasty and the dill dip was fantastic. The highlander hot dog was very good, probably the best main we got. The pulled beef ciabatta was nice but very small, nice broth dip also. The 'legendary' mac and cheese was a tasty cheese sauce but we ordered black pudding crumb coating on top and it never came with that. The reason I took a star off for service was that the waitress was adamant that it was, yet was unable to point out where the black pudding was, she did point out a tiny pepper fleck when she tried though. She did offer another one however we didn't have the time to wait around and nothings worse than eating half ur meal then pausing until they make you another dish, whilst your company finishes theirs. Also, the macaroni elbows were massively overcooked, it did not feel like there were elbows, only lumps of starch through a cheese sauce. Chips were tasty and cooked perfectly! Service was speedy although this was a Monday night so can't say what it would be like...
