Sushi City — Restaurant in Scotland

This place is wildly inconsistent it’s very frustrating:

-Sushi sometimes is made neatly and tastes fresh/nicely balanced, but more often than not it feels like they asked some random guy off the street to conjure up sushi pieces.

-Somehow this ?SUSHI? place never stocks sufficient fresh salmon for a lot of menu items (i.e. the Salmon Poke Bowl - never in stock ever), how is this possible in a country like Scotland? Hello? Salmon, Scotland?.

-A few times I've had random pieces with fish replaced with imitation crab meat, oh thats one thing, this place LOVES using imitation crab meat (nice and cheap right?).

-If they don't have a menu item they often just replace with whatever rather than call you, ordered Fanta? Here's some coke. We don't have Tempura Prawns? Have a cake slice. No Fresh Salmon Poke Bowl? Here's Smoked Salmon and sesame bar.

-Any and all of the Sushi and Meal menu bundles are literally a cop out, I paid 30£ for 32 pieces, which one would think is quite a deal but when it arrived around 70% of the sushi pieces were rice with cucumber or some imitation crab meat (obviously), the other pieces had chewy/stringy smoked salmon and/or canned tuna, there was not 1 bit of fresh high quality fish in there, literally a cop out, they also try to name these pieces very generously "Lux" roll, even though it has got cucumber and canned tuna.

-I had to ask for the poke bowls to not bring any sauce apart from soy sauce, they use to drench it in this devil mix of thick black soy sauce drenched in sweet chilli mayo, ruining the dish.

To finish it off, this place ain't exactly cheap.

We love katsu curry and usually struggle to find a decent takeaway in Dumfries so when we saw a sign for this place at Dock Park we agreed to give it a go. We both got chicken katsu curry and it was really good, large portions of both chicken and rice and a curry sauce that evidently was made in house. The lady who served us was also incredibly friendly and chatty which we also found reflected well on the business. When it comes to takeaways in the area, this one quite easily comes near the top of all the ones we have tried....

Shockingly awful - didn't taste remotely like any Japanese food we'd ever eaten in or outside of Japan. We had a teriyaki chicken bowl, salmon katsu curry and salmon maki to go. Sushi rice was completely unseasoned and musty tasting, rice in the rice bowls on the other hand were seasoned in a most peculiar way, katsu curry gravy tasted nothing like katsu curry, and our soy sauce sachets for the sushi had been forgotten.
