Long story short, you'll walk away hungry and dissatisfied with the service. Read on if you care to see how poor our experience was.
Multiple locals recommended this place, so we made a reservation for 3 adults and 1 child for 18:30 on Wednesday.
We were greeted and sat early at 18:25, and ordered our drinks. We placed our order for our food (including starters) at around 18:40. Thankfully, we requested that our daughter's food be brought with the starters because the main entrees took at least 45 minutes to arrive after the starters.
Our adult beverages were empty far before the meal arrived. We were were never offered anything else the rest of the time we were there. I'm glad we ordered water, because if not, we would have had nothing to go with our meal.
The food was the only good thing, but was also a terribly small portion size for the price you pay. It was definitely NOT worth the price or the wait. After our meal was done, we were finally approached by the waiter/host and requested the bill. We had planned to have multiple drinks and dessert, but never had the opportunity to order anything additional.
We ordered at 18:40 and were asked if we wanted anything else at 19:45, over an hour later. Our main entrees arrived at the table at 19:25, 20 minutes before we left. At this point, we were basically out of water and were sharing water glasses between one another.
When the waiter brought the bill, he could clearly tell that we were upset and we let him know how dissatisfied we were with the service. We didn't complain about the food nor did we complain about how long it took to receive it. His response felt dismissive and disingenuous. "All I can say is I'm sorry and I clearly have things to work on." He then took the payment and immediately walked away to seat another table. He didn't offer for us to speak with the manager.
During our tenure at the table we saw 2 tables get up and leave because they were never waited on. We received far superior service at local pubs, at less than half the cost and twice the portion sizes. No lie, we went to Tesco afterwards because we were still hungry. Save yourself the time and money and go anywhere...

The restaurant is located on a small road right along the River Ness. When we got there, there was a queue and the staff was rushing around trying to help everyone to the best of their capabilities. We were seated very quickly and were given some bread and butter to munch on. We decided to change a lot of different dishes like asking for a different fish for a kids dish and getting a fish that wasn’t even on the menu. Our helper was very patient and very helpful getting our orders together. She even made sure that we were alright waiting for a bit since they were awfully busy.
We got our food and they looked sooo good!! We ordered the venison rump, the fish and chips, a salmon fish item from kid’s menu, and another fish dish that I can’t remember the name right now. The design of each plate was absolutely beautiful and the flavor combinations were heavenly!!
The venison dish came with a healthy serving of mashed potatoes and a couple of asparagus and beets. The combined sweetness of the beets along with the creamy mash was amazing not to mention how juicy and delicious the venison meat was! The fish and chips were very nice, the fish was well cooked with great flavors and the tartare sauce helped accentuate it to perfection.
The other fish (can’t remember the name of the dish) came with a well made sauce, tomatoes and potatoes. The fish itself had wonderful flavor and tart taste of the tomatoes were simmered down by the potatoes. Overall the entire dish was very well thought out in flavor. The salmon dish that we got from the kids menu was very fulfilling. It had tomatoes, potatoes and asparagus with a healthy serving of salmon. Our kid loved it and devoured it immediately!!
The staff and overall experience at this place was absolutely awe inspiring. At one point we accidentally broke a dish and they were very courteous and kind about it and they never hesitated to help! Their food was wonderful and the vibe of the entire restaurant was very welcoming. If we could, we would give this...

Tucked away in Inverness, The Kitchen is a tiny restaurant that truly delivers on every front. While we were unable to secure a spot upstairs to enjoy the famed views, the experience was nothing short of fabulous.
The food? Absolutely stupendous. It was the kind of Scottish fare you dream of—rich in tradition but with a subtle, modern twist. The ingredients were incredibly fresh, and the dishes were executed perfectly. Each bite was a testament to the quality of the local produce, from the robust flavors of the mains to the delicate nuances of the sides. Truly delicious.
The drinks were equally fantastic, and the staff’s recommendations were spot-on. But the true highlight was the service. Despite the restaurant being packed and seemingly managed by just three waitstaff, we never felt neglected. In fact, it was one of the best dining service experiences I’ve ever had. The staff were efficient, attentive, and always present when needed, even with a full house. It’s remarkable how they maintained such a high level of service under pressure.
If you find yourself in Inverness, make sure to book a table at The Kitchen. It’s a must-visit for anyone seeking a memorable meal with fantastic service in the Highlands.
Highly, highly...
