On first impressions it doesn't look the smartest of pubs, but then if you look deeper, beyond the hoard gathered outside, and the disarray they have created on the tables, it starts to improve when you cross the threshold. Long, very busy bar opens up to a bright and bustling open kitchen, a constant flow of food emanating from within, its arrival announced by the ping of a muffled bell. Staff pounce to the serving area to get the food out whilst it is still hot. Then there is the bar. Two or three deep, it is a daunting looking obstacle...getting served... but your fears will prove unfounded, and here is why. I watched the small team carefully, anticipating anxiety but it never came, I noticed the staff darting from face to face serving relentlessly and without let up, and something I thought had deserted Wetherspoons, the staff paying attention to the queue, noting who was there and serving in strict order. Big applause because, not only do I know how hard that is to do, I thought it was a long forgotten skill. So, then to the food; we'd had a long day travelling from Spain and some more miles home to go, we were starving. The food was of an exceptional standard, hot, good portions and clearly freshly cooked. With such praise, why only 4*? Everything was great, had the cleaning up and table clearing been tip top I would happily award it...
Read moreI come to this establishment after a long day of work especially because it’s on my way home. Last night I also stopped by for my 2 glass of Chardonnay and 2 shots of sambuca because I did had a rough day. When I went to the bar to order for my friend a drink I got told to I’ve can’t be served anymore because I am to drunk, when I asked why and what is the excuse. The answer was, we don’t have to give one because that’s the “standards”. Multiple times I’ve asked why not and if someone can please explain to me. By the way I am also working in this Industry and I am a manager myself. Nothing no explanation. I left the bar went to my table and said well that’s a first no more drinks for me and the “manager” that actually looks half my age followed me and told me I have to get out because I am drunk and she can’t understand me. Mind you I am from the Caribbean and have a different accent haha writing this actually have me laughing. So I guess here we got the explanation why I sounded “to drunk” cuz missy couldn’t understand me and thought she was right. By the way wetherspoons is 90% full of drunks. But here we go - Welcome to...
Read moreWent in yesterday with two friends stood at door waiting until eventually we managed to get someones attention and were told to sit anywhere. We tried to get app to work to order but there was an issue so after about ten minutes we spoke to a staff member who said would get someone over. Twenty minutes later we managed to stop another staff member and explained situation. She informed us was just starting shift and wasnt sure what was happening and turned out she was a manager. My friend expressed his disappointment as he has previously had very good service. She took order and brought food and then drinks. My glass had lipstick on it was taken away and replaced then my food was cold and that had to be replaced. Other two orders were fine. My friend spoke to manager about how disappointing this visit had been to be met with platitudes of if we return again hopefully it will be a better experience blah blah blah. She said will feedback to staff about issues but should also consider her approach as when my friend said to her he was giving onsight feedback as suggested she said he could write and complain...
