Lidl — Local services in Great Britain

Edit: this is to reflect the expansion of the store, which improves it a bit, only issue is, there is always a large queue at self service check outs as they are (mostly) card only - however, one occasion i was in store they had a staffed check out opened, and the cashier advised cash only, and as i was paying with a card, i was directed to self service, i waited 10 mins in a queue, and missed a bus as a result.

(Old review) Great location, but very small, very limited stock, and very busy.

Really unimpressed with the turnstile, and trolley gate at the entrance, reminds me of a 1980’s Co-op superstore, and not so good if you have bags or a pram. Best not take young kids unless you want to hear them scream. The queues for the self service check outs can be long. However it is cheap for a city centre supermarket, and doesn’t have the mark up of other supermarkets; such as Sainsbury’s local, or Tesco Express.

8 Self Service tills only , fine. However 6 card only, one turned off with a hand basket plonked on top. I queued for ages with others to used the 1 and only cash self serve till. The built in scanner was broken and had to use a device on a wire. I couldn't consequently scan my voucher or my Lidl plus account card. The employee lady was rude when the machine jammed when I explained i simply tried to register my Lidl Plus as directed on the screen. She bluntly told me the machine is broken. The person prior to me jammed the machine by simply putting a £1 coin into it. I only visited for a jar of coffee and a packet of biscuits yet waited forever to pay for...

I cannot give this store full marks simply because it is such a small store; they cannot offer the multiplicity of goods the superstores can. That said, they do have a good range of the basics at typically low Lidl prices. They have installed self-serve checkouts. I KNOW a lot of people are against these conveniences but they do make getting in, getting your stuff and getting back out again a LOT quicker: and there is always someone on hand to help those of us who may be slightly technologically challenged. I used to avoid using this store coz of the long queues but those are largely a thing of the past, I shop here...
