I picked this restaurant because I was told it was the place to go for food. A close friend of mine came to visit from Cornwall and unfortunately the family nigh ended turned into a big disaster. It started off when we sat down and my arms glued to the table as I leaned on it. Then we found it impossible to read the menu without help of the phone's torch. We did complain about the lack of lightning, but this was ignored... It got better, we ordered food and my choice was a rib eye steak. Had many of them in the past and knew exactly what this steak should look or taste like. The steak was the worst piece of meat I had in my life. i do appreciate tis type of steak has a little bit more fat than any other, but It was so fatty I could hardly taste any meat, so as you would I complained about the quality and I was told, that there was nothing wrong with the steak and that this is what the rib eye steak should be like. About 70% of this steak was left on the plate, as there was no meat left on it. The friend of mine tasted it and co firmed it was absolutely disgraceful! It got even better when Frank Sinatra act kicked off. My friend was humiliated by "Frank " in front of all the people, shortly after "Frank" said to my children that their ice cream were full of sugar and this must've been for them like kid's version of crack cocaine!!! At that point we decided to leave, this was just too much. Mind you I did specifically ask if it was okay to bring the kids with us and whether or not there were any time restrictions! I was told it was absolutely fine and then I'm hearing comments like this?!
Apart from a very nice and polite waitress there was nothing even close to good about the place. I will definitely never go back there and recommend this place to anybody I know!!!
By the way, I think the Chef should go to Hickory's in Southport and check what a proper rib eye steak should look and taste like!
A huge ,huge...
Read moreWe visited here based upon the good reviews we'd read, but unfortunately, we were rather disappointed. We ordered a selection of the grazing dishes to share, and although they were all edible, they just seemed pre-prepared and not very tasty. The sticky baby back ribs were dry with a blob of bbq sauce plonked on top as an afterthought, the pan fried prawns tasted very much like they were in a jarred sweet and sour sauce with pineapple, the meatballs had the texture of tinned meatballs, the chicken wings were very moist but the coating was so thick they were more like KFC. The calamari was very tasty, but you only got 4 little rings, which for £7 a dish seems unreasonable. The duck pancakes were tasty, but unfortunately, the vegetable accompaniments for them arrived 5 minutes later, and by that time, half of the duck pancakes had already been eaten. I guess with so many dishes to choose from on the menu (which is very extensive), it would be difficult for any chef to prepare everything from scratch, perhaps with a more condensed menu it could be better. The staff were pretty friendly. The atmosphere was a bit gloomy, but this was mostly due to the fact there was structural work and scaffolding going on outside in the arcade the...
Read moreWhat a great find! Before I go any further, I would wholeheartedly recommend you check this place out and sample some of the very extensive menu. It was really hard to choose as they serve almost everything you could think of; from steaks and burgers through to pasta and curries, they serve it all. We went with Pulled Pork Nachos for starters, which were generously loaded, and followed up with 5 plates of tapas style dishes including mini fish and chips, mini steak and chips, fish cake, meatballs and shredded duck with pancakes. It was all delicious. After this gluttonous feast we could not resist the temptation of a genuinely home made Ice Cream Sundae. You don’t find many places that offer decent Ice Cream desserts anymore but we have just found another one. As we couldn’t quite decide which Sundae to choose, the waitress said she would make one with a bit of everything and it was amazing! Just as we had finished our meal we noticed some speakers being setup and we were treated to live music for the rest of the evening. What a bonus to great evening. We will certainly return to the Hungry Monk as we have so much more of the...
