HYGGE Fitzalan Square — Restaurant in Sheffield

Sullen staff will sulk when politely asked to wipe a dirty table, do it hastily and leave it completely wet; had to finish the job myself. Like interacting with bored teenagers. Food is well presented but very overpriced for the portions. Was served a small, dry piece of bland toast with a thin layer of avocado smeared on top and 2 cherry tomatoes on the side for £5.50. Other hipster cafes around the corner serve food x3 as filling for the same price. Coffee just ok. Many times, coffeeshops will optimize either on food or coffee quality (both if they are excellent) but here they have managed to be average on both counts. The space itself is amazing, well lit and decorated with plenty of sitting options. Overall you are really paying for a nice looking room, but many other independent cafes in Sheffield offer just that with much warmer service and better food.

Potential customers, take note. They will never change their mediocre overpriced food or ditzy service despite promising so to others who have complained in previous reviews. Touting a “new and improved menu” for months, yet delivering nothing but passive aggressive attitudes and “sick burns” online.

PS: I did thank my waiters - should I apologise for being ignored? Your response suggests just that, but I think I already did. In fact I specifically remember going up to the counter and saying: “Sorry, could I please have some tissues to wipe the table? It’s very wet.”

One last thing, thanks for clarifying you are the type of business to want a sexist “smile-tax” on women for the privilege of existing in public. I was not smiling, yes, but neither was I rude or sullen like your waitress, whose job it is to be professional. Having actually lived there, I can tell you the Scandinavian culture you pretend to take inspiration from allows women to go about their day with a neutral face without making the type of negative assumptions about their character you have...

I’ve always loved coming to this Hygge branch, and the service has consistently been brilliant in the past. However, this visit was a huge disappointment.

An unpleasant lady took my order for a mocha in a disposable cup. She asked where I’d be sitting, I pointed out my spot, and she said “okay.” But then I noticed everyone who came after me was served promptly, with their orders delivered to their tables, while mine was delayed for ages.

At one point, she even tried to serve me someone else’s drink and food. When my order still hadn’t arrived, I went to the counter to ask about it. She then pointed to my mocha, which had been sitting there for a long time, now cold and served in a cup that wasn’t disposable.

When I asked her to transfer it into a disposable cup as I’d originally requested, she spilled a good portion of it on the floor, perhaps intentionally, given her attitude. She then asked me if I wanted it to be topped up, which I refused. No apology, no basic courtesy.

Truly horrible service from her. Other recent reviews mention unpleasant experiences with a female staff member, and I’m now certain this is the same person. I’ll continue visiting Hygge because I love the place, but I’ll definitely do my best to avoid her...

Today I visit Hygge, a cute coffee shop in the city center of Sheffield, it is located at the Fitzalan Square. I found this location due to their beautiful response to a very disrespectful review regarding one of their staff members who was wearing their hijab. Nonetheless , this location did not disappoint, the staff were super welcoming upon arrival. When I got there it was quite busy, this was around 13:00, after a couple of hours people came and went as I continue to do my work. The food here is spectacular, I had the waffle with bacon and Syrup….OMG D-E-L-I-C-I-O-U-S !!! For the beautiful price of only £5.5 😮I know right 🤪 I also had a mango , passion fruit and pineapple smoothie honestly it was perfect, it had little chunks of the pineapple which I loveee! The music here may I add AMAZING and I wasn’t the only one who thought this I overheard multiple people around me saying how they needed to share the playlist because it was that good!
