This whole experience was really disappointing.
2hrs for 10 x small plates. It was 20mins before someone took our drinks order. It was then 1hr before we received our first two small dishes (one was the wrong order and sent back with no apology given!) then 20mins later we were asked what the other dishes were that we were waiting for! Staff were way out of their depth, unhelpful, seemed unhappy, didn’t care, not interested in fixing issues, minimal eye contact given. These things matter. There appeared to be no one in charge. No one overseeing things and putting things right. Just a mess. The sashimi dish and the bao dishes were good. When the broccoli dish arrived last (1hr 45mins in!) it was totally inedible, like it had been boiled for at least 20mins. Just basic that you can’t serve that. When they offered to take it off the bill (we were given the impression that this just happened a lot), they then removed something completely different from the bill instead, which was cheaper. By then we’d given up. The worst thing about it all? Nobody cared. We overheard the table next to us having a completely messed up bill too. We’ll never go back. I wouldn’t eat here again if it was free. What’s more, I don’t think anybody there cares. Really sad to see. Ruined a birthday. Lots of quality places to eat in Sheffield but this definitely IS NOT one of them. Spend your hard earned money...
Read moreWent to Konjö for their lunch menu. It is where jöro used to be which is well situated for parking. It isn't at Cutlery Works anymore.
The lunch menu and Kombos are really great value for money. We each had the kombo 1 with fried chicken bao, Korean fried chicken, and a side. Sides we got were the fermented s&p potatoes and the duck hoisin hashbrown.
We also tried the beef short rib croquette and the prawn crackers from the a la carte menu.
The fried chicken bao, the korean fried chicken, and the short rib croquette were especially fantastic. Love the ranch and chilli crisp on the bao, the bao itself is homemade and so fresh which makes it super pillowy.
It's really nice to try a place like this and I think it's important to understand that this is a bit experimental. When we gave feedback to the restaurant and kitchen on what we loved and what they could consider, it was a really lovely discussion. They made it really clear that they were looking for feedback and how they can make alterations and develop dishes. Like I said, it is a little experimental so it was really great to have that open dialogue.
Would 100% recommend coming and, if you do, have a look at the independent...
Read moreI like Cutlery Works as a concept and as a venue, but Konjo continue to be the real star of the show.
I visit whenever I can and like to differentiate between staples like the korean fried chicken, (which always hits the spot and stands out across the city in an ever popular category) and specials like the recently added McBao, which I found playful, well conceived and a real champion for local producers like Wortley Wagyu.
The staff are always passionate about their products and will take the time to explain the often complex processes behind each carefully curated dish with an enthusiasm and knowledge you don't often get in a venue of this style.
If you haven't visited yet I highly recommend you do, the staff are clearly highly qualified chefs and the standard of produce, cookery and service you receive far exceeds the reasonable price point...
