I'm not reviewing the food as I never got a chance to try it. I'm sure that part of the business is nice though. As for the service, I'm not sure what to say....bad? Terrible? Atrocious? Too many negative adjectives spring to mind. First you stand there waiting for twenty minutes because there is a sign asking you to wait patiently. No problem there but you don't even get an acknowledgment that you are waiting. No 'hello', no 'I'll be with you in one minute'. Nothing. They (all the servers) just walk right past you as if you were invisible. After 20 mins, someone else asked the server if they had a table. They replied that they would first have to check if there was still a 30 min wait on! Wow. Perhaps that's a nice bit of info to tell all the people waiting for 15 - 20 mins? Anyway I managed to get a table a few mins later. I then waited another ten mins for a menu. It didn't come. I left and had a nice breakfast somewhere where they actually communicate to customers. I guess if you pay your servers peanuts,...

Lovely little place, everything is freshly made in the spirit of rustic homemade food with modern fresh flavours. The cooking style reminded me a little of the old blue moon cafe near the cathedral (now gone), but unfortunately, the vegetarian options are a little scant. You can get a sandwich or a lunch, salads etc, but the choice is very limited. There is a choice of seating styles so hopefully something to suit most people. The entrance door is spring loaded so might be a slight obstacle for wheelchair users, but I suspect most are well practiced. I'm not sure about how easy it would be to navigate through the seating area, the closest is tall with bar stools and unsuitable for anyone in a wheelchair. I tried to use the toilet, but it was locked. I knocked, but there was no answer so I don't knock whether you have to ask to use it. There was no engaged/vacant indicator. Most people will really enjoy visiting the Grind, but if you have specific requirements then please check they can be met...

This was our very 1st visit and will be our last. I wouldn't complaint about the food per se but, when leaving we were chased by a female staff member, (tho we were not running, i might add,) who confronted and alleged to us having paid or not, and not exactly in the politest of manner. The funny thing is, we paid when we ordered, as is the standard procedure i assumed, because i was asked to pay. I also thought it a tad prices, though as i said before i couldn't complain about the quality of their fare. But being chased on or down the pavement for payment, which we had made, is more than insulting it's down right disgusting, and we will never step foot in that establishment again. Also, as nice as the food may be!! They don't exactly cater for everyone, it may be quirky and a little fancy, which appeals to some (myself included,) but my other half who went with me it did not. I may have waffled on too long and too much, but let's just say i had a bone to grind, no pun intended.

Your loss not...

It's a nice little Café and the food is good but it's not worth the huge price tag. We visited a few months ago and had a full breakfast & black coffee each. While the breakfast was good, it was ridiculously priced. £30+ for 2 breakfasts and 2 black coffees! It's Sheffield, not London! Yes, it's in Kelham, which is trendy, but if this is what "trendy" costs, I'll stick with 'Spoons prices. I'd actually forgotten about how pricey it was here until this morning when we called for a quick sausage sandwich. The sausage was overly greasy but it was a nice sandwich. Yet again though the bill caught me by surprise. £23.60 for 2 sausage sandwiches and 2 black coffees... That's daylight robbery! I doubt I'll go again, not when there are less expensive cafés that do equally good breakfasts in the area. Try Bar Kelham or Kelham Kitchen, I've been to both and the food is just as good but more reasonably priced.

The service was good - very quick and offered drinks/menus upon arrival. The interior was lovely and it seems like a nice spot within Kelham. However, the coffees were cold even though we were served them straight away. I don’t mind paying good money for good food but on this occasion it was not worth it. The full English was average, and yet again cold. The flavoured fried eggs (do not not recommend) were not what I thought they would be - could be my mistake. But nobody wants a pan of oil for their breakfast. We also tried the pancakes as the pictures online looked divine, however, these were also disappointing - the pictures do not reflect well on what is provided, and I wouldn’t order them again. Overall, a lovely place but wouldn’t visit again or recommend. The pictures do look lovely but not worth £40 and leaving disappointed.

A lot to say here about The Grind. First, the positives: Staff were great Fun little trendy cafe Nice home made beans But the negatives: Sticky tables (ick) Really grubby menus (just noooo) Broken teapot (come on, guys, REALLY?) Quite a bad smell of bleach when we arrived Tea brand was really meh Took almost 50 minutes for food to come (the restaurant only had two other customers in it when we arrived). The food. Oh the food. The breakfast looked great, but it was all a bit tasteless. The potatoes were undercooked. Generally. For the price I had expected a whole lot better. Can't deny I was disappointed with it all. I give The Grind a very generous 3 stars (and, sadly, zero noms).
