PizzaExpress — Restaurant in Stockport

I am not usually one to write picky reviews, things go wrong sometimes and we all try to make the best of it if we can. Sunday evening is quiet in Stockport but we appreciate restaurants that open till 10pm as we sometimes really need that. Tonight the pizzas were very good and the waitress was charming and efficient, However, we ordered desert and coffee just after 8pm and then the waitress came back and said that we couldn't have coffee as the manageress was cleaning the coffee machine and yes there she was barely 5m away busily cleaning the machine - not to make us a nice cup of coffee after she was done but to switch it off for the night... more than 90 minutes before they close. She didn't think to ask if we wanted coffee before she did this or even to wait a few minutes until our desert order had been taken. It probably wasn't her intention bit it really felt like we were not important to Pizza Express. Possibly Sunday evenings in winter don't make a profit but they still have to pay their staff and this certainly won't help their repeat business. 5* for pizzas and waitress 0*...

We were here recently for a freinds birthday, and what a shambles. Food arriving out of order (mains before starters). Mains took forever, ok so a big group 30 of us yes I think a longer wait of around say 40-45 minutes woukd be expected from odering to mains arriving. However, 1 hr 45 is appaling. Sent the wrong pizza out to me 3 times. Had to ask about half a dozen times for 5 doughball portions that were missing. Extra drinks sent out when not ordered. Bill obviously was wrong and a £70.00 service charge was added. This service was appaling staff running around like headless chickens then when food brought out just muttering what it was resulting in one of the party members having to stand up and shout out the orders. Charged for drinks and pizzas we never had. Sadly when the food arrived it was luke warm and mediocre at best (apart from the doughballs which were great)! I am willing to gibe Pizza Express one more try however, been to 3 establishments over the past 12 months and all seem to be below par, cannot justify paying the extortionate prices they charge for...

Absolutely awful experience. I went with my friend and our two young sons for dinner. I can honestly say we would rather have starved to death (which the children nearly did) When we arrived we nearly fell over the delivery drivers in their haste to get to the serving hatch. We were seated in front of the kitchen, which made it easy for the servers to ignore us. On the plus side, our location made it easy to drop tomato sauce all down my coat without a sniff of an apology. The children were treated to burnt pasta but unfortunately missed their ice cream as they had fallen asleep after two hours of waiting. Our food was bland, cold and overpriced. We weren’t even offered a novelty hat unlike other customers - that was the icing on the cake for me. When complaining about the burnt pasta I was told they put it in the over - I can only conclude they had left it in over night.
