AVOID AVOID AVOID THIS COFFEE ONE IF YOU HAVE ANY ALLERGIES OR INTOLERANCES, ESPECIALLY MILK!
Myself and my partner have been coming here for the last few years and used to consider this coffee shop as our favourite in Stroud. We have always loved the coffee and the general atmosphere has drawn us back time and time again.
I don’t know what has changed but in the last year we have had several dreadful experiences which have lead to this review today.
For context my partner is a type one diabetic and I have a dairy intolerance which means I have only opted for non dairy milk for ten years.
Over the last year I cannot recall a time we have visited this store where they have got our order correct. We aren’t ordering anything complicated we simply don’t drink normal milk and my partner has sugar free syrup.
We have witnessed the staff who quite clearly don’t seem to care or have any awareness for allergies or health conditions openly discuss how they have made our drinks incorrectly which has lead them to have to remake our drinks or we have had to ask for them to be remade. We are always extremely polite when highlighting that our drinks are wrong even when the staff have been rude rather than apologetic but it is becoming more and more frustrating with every incorrect order.
We have avoided coming back the last few months however today we thought we would give them one last chance as we have become aware that the store had started to use stickers when making non dairy orders.
I ordered our drinks clearly asking for one with soya milk and sugar free syrup and one with oat milk. We also ordered a flapjack and the total was around eleven pounds. My partner witnessed the girl behind the till openly state she had forgotten his drink was soya milk and then having been handed our drinks we had to ask for the flapjack which had seemingly been forgotten.
We have since discovered that she did not make my drink with Oat milk and did not use sugar free syrup for my partners drink. I am now in a world of pain and my partners levels have sky rocketed.
We have literally paid eleven great British pounds for drinks that have had a detrimental effect on our evening.
I would love to say this is a one off but this has now become a regular occurrence and we won’t ever be going back.
Considering people have been killed due to companies not taking care when dealing with allergies and intolerances this is extremely...
Read moreVisiting my family this weekend in Stroud my brother and his GF decided to come up from Bristol whilst I was down from Scotland, as I’m originally from Stroud.. We decided to go for a coffee and after reading most of the reviews I thought would be great for coffee and a cake. Everything looked great and we ordered and I went to pay but they advised they couldn’t possibly take my cash as it was A Scottish (still British) note. I pointed out this is legal tender as it’s Stirling. The staff were having none of it. So I was incredibly embarrassed and luckily found an ‘English’ note (still British) The cashier pointed out that this happens “all the time” so I’ve suggested this needs looked at by management as if they get a special pen to highlights if there’s any counterfeiter issues with ANY British bank notes. Having been to Belfast recently and used money all over Britain I’ve never been refused a sale in 46 years!
I’m absolutely disgusted that we were treated in this way and I will not be back, I got the matcha tea also which tasted like spinach, I like spinach, just not in my tea. I ate my cheesecake but as I was still upset and angry, it wasn’t enjoyable. We should have just left and paid no cash but I actually thought the staff were joking at 1st laughing it off and making a joke about a Scottish / different note.
The staff advised that their policy was to not take a bank note from anyone that could look or prove to be unsavoury, but I’m sorry what a stupid and judgemental rule in any business!
To management, if you want to make money in your establishments, please ensure you can actually take the money and train your staff how to draw a line on a bank note with a counterfeit pen,...
Read moreHmm, I do understand the situation at the moment however..to still be charging £3+ for a coffee which is served in a paper cup & then you have to clear away, clean & sanitise your own table & chairs seems a bit off. The 'self clean' I understand is company policy on how they are staying safe, protecting the public etc, but to be honest I don't really agree with it, it's not really well publicised & if you don't realise that's what you have to do before you sit down, it's too late! The staff were friendly enough though didn't reinforce the need to sanitise the tables ourselves. There is a notice saying that the staff will be cleaning 'surfaces' every 30 mins, but I didn't see this happen. Sorry to say that while this continues (& while the weather let's me), I'll be more inclined to grab a cheaper one from somewhere else &...
