Dreadful food, awful staff grotty surroundings. Am puzzled at the amazing reviews for this place and lack of balanced reviews. We were served by a young lad with no knowledge of the menu or people skills. The place was dusty and chintzy like we'd stepped back in time to a 1970s Italian restaurant and it definitely needs updating and the food was terrible.
Our brushcetta starter was plentiful and big enough to share but bland and dry, no olive oil or balsamic to give moistness and flavour and the tomatoes hadnt been marinated or had any flavour at all really. The mains were brought out while we were still eating our starters! Big portions. The veggies in the veg pasta were hard and tasteless and I suspect, pre frozen. The parmesan was not parmesan just some shredded tasteless white cheese and it was frozen so with the water content it went mushy after being sprinkled on hot food. My seafood pasta was awful, chewy overcooked calamari, rock hard prawns (frozen again I suspect) and the tomato sauce was unbearably spicy, it was packed full of raw chilli and was horrible. Raw chilli does not belong in a seafood pasta. I was asked if my meal was ok and I nicely informed the waiter that it was quite spicy but he seemed to take offence to this and launched into a lecture even though I was polite about it. He took great joy in loudly pointing out that the dish always contains chilli and that the menu states the dish is hot. I did not notice that as its a footnote, the main description did not say so but I was tired after a long day in snowdon so my bad. He became argumentative and rude however and embarrassed me on using cream to tone down the heat as I felt uncomfortable returning the dish. It was just unnecessary I found him quite condescending to women tbh.
It was a steep £8.50 for a glass of house wine and the bill was very high with no concession or apology made about our experience. The waiter brought the debit card machine to my table twice without asking and we definitely felt obliged to get going even though the restaurant was practically empty. I will never eat here ever again after the way we were treated and wouldn't...
Read moreWe arrived without a reservation, hoping they would be able to squeeze us in. Fortunately it wasn't overly busy and we were able to be seated by a window (our preference) as we browsed the menu we were asked whether we would like a drink, after ordering our drinks a second member of staff came to take our order. My partner chose a pancake with seafood starter, served with a creamy sauce and salad, I opted for the funghi fritti. Both arrived piping hot, with a side salad. The funghi fritti was outstanding, not at all like the frozen breaded mushrooms that leak water when you bite into them and lose half the coating. These remained firm with coating intact, and the accompanying garlic mayonnaise and salad tasted fresh. Apparently the pancake with seafood was amazing, (I'm not a fan of seafood 🙃) my partner was disappointed to find he finished it as he was enjoying it so much! Then the main course, I chose the spaghetti carbonara, while my partner had the swordfish. Again, these were divine! The spaghetti was cooked to perfection, no stickiness and the carbonara sauce was incredible. The swordfish, I'm reliably informed, was perfect, and my partner ate every bit - it doesn't happen often. A side of garlic bread finished off our meal, one portion was 2 large pieces of bread lightly toasted and topped with garlic butter (not like the stuff you get with a takeaway pizza, or the sliced baguette type from supermarkets- although these can be fine too) all in all the food was fabulous. The staff were wonderful, attentive but not intrusive, and the atmosphere was nice and relaxed, it had a very...
Read moreI typically only write reviews if a restaurant has been significantly above average or below standard.
Casenova was very much above average! I arrived at around half 8 on a Saturday evening. This is quite late as most other Italian restaurants in Llandudno close around 9/9:30pm. It was busy, very busy with only two tables available. Me and my friend had a 5 minute wait while the waiters servered, took orders and cleaned the tables for us. This wasn't an issue as I hadn't booked so had no promise of an instant seat.
The atmosphere was nice and the lighting fine (not too dim, but not blindingly bright). While I was waiting, I observed that a table of 1 person seemed to be waiting quite a while to have their order taken. This made me worry, for I was very hungry after a day of climbing Snowdon. Non-the-less, that table was catered to quickly, and so was ours. After swallowing the fact of country-wide rising beer costs (£5.90 ish for a 600ml bottle of Peroni), I ordered this and a Calzone - my friend chose the cabonara.
Oh my, we're we pleased. Being the only calzone I have ever eaten, this has probably ruined my experience of future calzones. I tasted my friends cabonara, both he and I agreed it was spectacular.
In summary: great atmosphere; great food; great (but expensive) choice of beer; though it seems like maybe 1 more waiter on the floor would ease the order times and work load.
Thank...
