So having been told about Founderd by my partners daughter we agreed to go there for food as Tukka Tuk (amazing food) has a spot here as well as in Cardiff and Barry. So we made sure that we visited on the last trip to Swansea.
Where it's situated is quite easy to get too, plus its off the main drag surrounded by other eateries. The difference with Founders, however is it contains independent pop-up restaurants/venues. So you have a decent array of choice when it comes to food/drinks.
On the Friday we attended, we arrived prior to any of the restaurants opening, but you could still go in and have beverages from The Little Man Coffee Co. We found a place to sit, scanned the QR code on the table and placed our order for drinks. Within about five minutes our drinks (a large mocha with a shot of haxelnut and two steaming pots of tea) were brought to our table. Excellent service so far!
By the time we'd drank our drinks and had a chat, it was just coming up to 12pm, The Bar had opened followed closely by the pop-ups opening a few minutes later. I ordered from The Bar via the QR code a pint of Grey Trees Afghan Pale Ale and paid for it. Within a minute, the person who'd brought the drinks previously came over and advised unfortunately that they had no Afghan available. No biggy. I asked for a pint of Tiny Rebel Easy Livin'. Within 30 seconds the person was back to advise that also wasn't available. Again no issue, so opted for Tiny Rebel Clwb Tropicana which I'd had previously and enjoyed. Success, as this was available and promptly brought over.
By now we were all hungry, so we moved on to where to order from and what to have. This was a dilemma for me, as all the food options looked lush. I ummed and ahhhed for a while, and in the end opted for Tukkatuk as we had really enjoyed their food from the Cardiff Market pop-up. The whole group went for Tukka Tuk.
I opted for the KFC (Keralan Fried Chicken) which comes with Bombay fries a pot of their thousand island dressing. My partner and her daughter went for a Chicken Tikka Naanwich which also comes with Bombay fries. On top of that, an additional portion of Bombay fries were included on the order, along with a chilli dip and one other dip. Like everything else, the order was easily placed and paid via the QR code. And luke everything else, if arrived promptly.
Everyone enjoyed their meals, however we ended up overdosing on Bombay fries, which wasn't a bad thing, and my partners daughter ended up taking home some of her naanwich in a container supplied by Tukka Tuk.
Next time we go, I will definetly try something from one of the other pop-ups as when other people's orders were coming out to be served, everything looked amazing!
There really should be a Founders...
Β Β Β Read moreThis place is a vibe!! We've been coming here for months now on an almost weekly basis. I'm obsessed, my partners obsessed and my kids are obsessed π The venue itself is stunning and there's plenty of space, even when it's getting busy you can hardly tell. We are big foodies and are always on the hunt for something different and exciting which can be quite difficult in a culture where so many places serve a different version of the same meals over and over again. This place is a gem, it's so refreshing to have somewhere with a great variety of food available from all different cuisines, be able to pick and choose what you want and as much as you want instead of settling with one meal. And if you're still hungry? Keep ordering! It's different here, and I love it. We always end up with at least 5 plates from the mix of vendors and we've NEVER had a bad meal, never had a complaint to make and even writing this review is making me want to come back! The only thing I'd say needs to be worked on is the site you reach to order after scanning the QR code. Its definitely something you get used to after a visit or two here, but for the less tech savvy it can be difficult to navigate and quite frustrating when you click the back button on your phone out of habit instead of the one on the site and end up leaving the website and having to start all over again, which we discovered when we brought my parents and ended up ordering for them. But it's a mild niggle and forgotten as soon as the food hits the table and you do have the option to order in other ways, I just want to be fed as soon as I'm sitting, haha. You HAVE to try the Nanwich, both fillings are unreal and packed with a little bit of magic. The Kerala chicken and coated fries I could bag up and eat all day long. The Karaage Chicken equally as unreal and always a part of my order and the pork gyoza's are so addictive! We're yet to get stuck in with the entire menu from Cwtchitas but we have had the tacos which are little bits of heaven, especially the beef! Burritos are next on my list and I can't wait π I also feel the creator of that bowl of crispy chips doused in Japanese curry sauce needs some sort of an award because even at the bottom of that bowl the chips were still crispy and outstanding! I'm only stopping now because I'm starving, but we'll see you...
Β Β Β Read moreWe went here last Sunday 4 adults and 2 little ones, no welcome from any of the staff, we picked our own table and 2 high chairs for the little ones. I went to the bar ordered 2 cokes, 1 lemonade which were filled to the top with ice ! and a pint of madri, went to pay with cash only to be told "card only" I asked my son "Where's the menu? " to find it's QR code only ! Frustrating when your phone is only on 20% asked the barman for a proper menu, there aren't any only QR code only, asked if I could charge my phone to order, no chargers available!! At this point I'm losing the will to live, downloaded the QR code only to be confused even further with the menu, phone now on 10% My son asked are you okay ? Nope ! (My anxiety levels are through the roof at this stage.) I said to order me anything as by this time I'd lost my appetite. I had a chicken burger with fries which was okay but not the best and came on a metal tray which was a disappointing presentation, my wife had a burrito wrap which was very dry and only eat half of it. No condiments on the table, I asked the waiter for salt, which he supplied but no offer of any sauces, and didnt ask if everything was okay? The meal came to Β£73 excluding drinks. Was it value for money ?
Founders & co.have some consideration for us older people who are not savvy with download codes and menu's, as when you go back page it logs you out, download the QR code again and again.
On a final note please, please sort the drainage smell out from the mixed toilets π» this wafted through as we were finishing our meal.
One of the worst experiences I've had at a restaurant π
I would have messaged you directly with this review, but this wasn't possible on your "contact us" page
A very dissatisfied Stuart...
