When I entered the café I looked at the menu boards and was surprised to see words such as "ham", "bacon" and "sausages" chalked on there. I almost turned around and walked out but I'd been on a water fast for five days and I was weak and very hungry. I'd also walked quite a distance looking for some good, tasty food.
I ordered garlic mushrooms with humus and a portion of sweet potato chips. The chips were very dry and tasteless. The mushrooms were ok except they were garnished with parsley which doesn't have a nice taste. Basil would have been nice. I normally love humus but this was cold, watery and not flavourful. If it wasn't for the mushrooms there would have been nothing for me to enjoy in this meal. The service was good, the staff are both nice and the café is clean and nicely decorated. The price was fairly low. I'm a bit disappointed that the food was so bland as there are not many vegan café/restaurants around. If it was better I would call in regularly. Maybe people who come here want direct meat substitutes but I gave up meat because I didn't want to eat it anymore. I would suggest the cook goes out and experiences some nice food. Try Govindas. I don't know many places around here but I cook thin base pizzas, pakhora, omlettes, soups and Mediterranean wraps that would blow your mind. I'd be happy to pay more but I need something to taste. People can't think too much of this food if you only open 2.5 days per week. I hope this review doesn't upset you but more than that, I hope it wakes you up. You're a nice person. Be more than just a...
Read moreWent here twice with my wife during a short break in Swansea and enjoyed it for the most part. My wife had Tofish and chips, I had a Burger and chips on one occasion, and we both had no-egg mayo baguette for lunch another day which was all very nice. The only niggles were the seating wasn't that comfortable and extra ketchup was another 50p which was a little surprising considering the price of the food, but overall a very good experience and would definitely recommend it. UPDATE: The business has now changed hands since our last visit and offers very little in comparison to the previous owners. It's very odd to take over a much loved eatery with a great menu and change it to a very basic menu. Also, probably not a good idea to let your staff wear a t shirt with an 'SS' emblem emblazoned on the back ? Like I said, very odd indeed ! We won't be...
Read moreThis is our favourite 100% plant based cafe in Swansea. The staff are friendly & professional & service is quick, but most importantly chef knows exactly what he's doing. Whether it's an indulgunt full breakfast or a Tofu panko bowl (recommended) or home cut chips everything is expertly cooked to perfection . One tip if you're planning a visit: the cafe is closed on days beginning with a T (I.e. Tuesdays & Thursdays). But that means it's still a 5 days a week operation! As former restrateurs believe me you need a couple of days off a week as hospitality is an intense business but it seems to come easily to cafe 18. We recommend it to friends & they've all loved it. One friend with vegan kids reported back her 12 year old saying 'this is brilliant - I can eat everything on this menu.' So in conclusion: keep it up cafe 18; we intend to...
