Ramon's Cafe Cardiff — Restaurant in Wales

On the outside it looks a bit dark and not as open as cafe 37. We went inside and was greeted by some lovely lad. We chose to sit outside out the back. It was lovely and bright and good atmosphere. Really charming. I ordered the Mexican burger and my gf ordered a build your own breakfast. Food arrived quite quick and lovely staff as usual.

The breakfast: Sausage was good, bacon was a bit salty but average really. Mushrooms were delicious and black pudding was good.

Mexican Burger: When the menu said it came with salad and chips I thought it meant a side salad. However the salad was in the burger. Not a problem but wasn't expecting cucumber in my burger. Picking up the burger the cucumber and tomatoes slipped right out the bottom. The bottom was wet. I left the salad out and tried again but the burger was just slipping around from wetness and sauce I guess. I ended up using knife and fork and the taste was actually very nice. The Mexican sauce has a little kick. The burger was cooked well with a good taste. Was a thick burger too not some thin cheap rubbish. Shame the bottom bun had gotten wet and soggy. But overall enjoyed the actual taste. The chips that came with the burger were just your average cafe chips. Nothing to write home about.

The price for the food was really good though. And the staff are always really happy and welcoming, with the outside being so...

Unfortunately the most recent owners have changed my mind on the is previously 5 stars across the board cafe. For almost 20 years ramones was my go to for breakfast almost once a week, but alas no more. The prices have risen steeply, quality of the food has gone down (toddler served sausage that's almost all gristle) and they've stopped free refill on tea or coffee. Overall very disappointed with ramon's and shall no longer be going. Edit april22 went back after over 2 years, food quality has improved back to whatbit used to be which is great however now very expensive (£20 for 2 adult and 1 kids breakfast) still no free refills and the service was shockingly bad, cardboard in kids drink, defensive cook snapping at everyone. Seems my decision to stop going 2 years ago was...

This is only a rating for the service we received today as every single time I have visited previously the food and service has been amazing! Unfortunately the owners weren’t present today as this would not have happened. Turned up around 1.30 today to be told that we would not be able to have food unless we want the food black as they stop serving at 2.30 and the grill is dirty I had to double check with the young lady what she meant by black and she confirmed she could not cook us food unless we want the bacon ect black. We left very disappointed as Ramons has never refused us or let us down...
