7 Square Restaurant — Restaurant in Warwick

Easily the best food we had in Warwick.

I found this little place by looking around Google maps and was encouraged by others reviews. And they were right!! I honestly can’t believe there weren’t any other customers in for dinner while we were there.

We went for dinner for my birthday. The restaurant didn’t even know that and they still went out of their way to provide us a wonderful experience. Staff were attentive, helpful, and were wonderfully engaging with our 2 year old. The owner even gave him a model car he’d been eyeing up in the window! As well as a free bowl of ice cream and bread (as he was hungry before the food came out).

On top of all of that, the food was absolutely delectable. We ordered 2 starters, 2 mains, and the crème brûlée and were impressed by each. We also ordered a bottle of wine (one of the cheaper ones but was still alright).

While the atmosphere was simple, it felt clean, tidy, and comfortable. They do display artwork for purchase that depicts nude models which wasn’t a problem for us but is perhaps something to consider if bringing older, more aware children.

The worst meal I can remember having. Six of us went for dinner and all had a bad experience. The charming waitress took our order and the wine, which at best could be described a vinaigrey arrived quickly.

Our starters arrived soon after. I had snails, I put one in my mouth and it was as cold as if it could have come straight from the fridge with butter on top that was not melted. 2 of the 8 snails were warm enough to be considered edible but quite over cooked. I tried my friend’s prawns which were soft and insipid.

At this point I suggested we cancel our mains and leave, but my friends were more optimistic than me. The waitress gave us a complimentary bottle of the bad wine before our mains arrived. My duck was supposing not cold but unsurprising so tough it was a real effort to cut, the carrots were rom temperature and the beans were surprisingly hot. The potato dauphinois were really pleasant, and this is the only decent thing. I will not comment on my friends meals, but I believe they will post their own comments.

The real upside to this meal is I will enjoy dining out on this story...

We decided on 7 Square on a whim. How fantastic! I had the rack of lamb and my wife had duck a l'orange. The food was so rich and delicious. We're paired our meals with a bottle of Cotes du Rhone Village Arbouse D'uchaux and it was spectacular.

The real highlight of the night was also the lowlight for us. We're brought our dog, Penny, with us. She was welcomed with open arms and even treated to her own serving of pate and ham. Unfortunately her doggie system couldn't handle this rich food and she got sick. So embarrassing. Paul was still absolutely first class and wouldn't hear any of our pleas of apology and offers to clean up after our dog. He took care of everything and even sat with us for a moment to help us recapture the beauty of our evening out.
