Based of my recent experience Warwick is surely making a name for itself as a foodie destination, and Bonito is a shining star within that constellation. Bonito is by all measures a small establishment, being able to accomodate approx 16 customers in a sitting. What Benito lacks in size, it more than makes up for in the dining offerings. There is no menu at Benito, as they adopt a simple philosophy of serving what is best on the day. This nod in the direction of a home cooked meal is carried through to the food on offer. The six courses that are delivered are confident and creative without the pretentiousness the has become an annoying characteristice of many tasting menus. Each dish is substantuial enough to allow the diner to really savour the offering while leaving enough room for the next offering. The Mediterranean approach comes to the fore as the ingredients are allowed to shine, while no dish tries to slap you in the face with a flavour burst. The service is attentive and friendly, the decor very tasteful and the wine offerings are small in range but very well selected. If you live in or are passing thru Warwickshire, put Benito very high on your to-do list. Very highly...
Read moreThis tapas restaurant is a hidden Warwick gem. I had heard good feedback about it but to experience it is on an entirely different level. It is superb and amongst the best restaurants I have ever visited. Lovely welcome from the owner, James, who, in company with his colleague, was attentive throughout. Not intrusive at all but good humoured. Warm happy atmosphere. There is a set (but secret) menu because James decides what he is to serve each evening and buys and cooks fresh ingredients for every diner so the 5 course meal is perfect. The wine was excellent too. We were not rushed at all but made to feel special. This is highly recommended and well worth a visit - but you ought to...
Read moreWe recently celebrated our anniversary at Bonito's restaurant in the Old Square, Warwick. The food was outstanding. It’s a small place with only 14 covers, which gave it a lovely, cosy atmosphere. I highly recommend it. The bruschetta on sourdough with quality cured ham was exceptional, as were all the courses. I’m especially curious about how the chef sources such incredible tomatoes—I’ve never come across anything like them on this side of the Channel. Now I’m on a mission to find delicious, flavourful tomatoes, unlike the bland and inconsistent ones typically found in...
