From the moment we walked by Hadley’s two weeks ago the aroma hit. So, when we revisited Whitby yesterday we’d already decided we would go for lunch. At the door met with a warm smile and greeting. Setting the mood for the entire meal as all of the staff were pleasant, helpful and chatty. Score 10 out of 10 for customer engagement and service.
Moving on to the service and food our order was taken promptly questions answered with a smile and it was not long before our drinks were brought to us, lovely pot of yorkshire tea, and then our food. For a sit down dinner value for money was excellent at £18 especially considering the fantastic environment which was busy but not over full of covers.
Both ordering the ‘Traditional Yorkshire tea meal deal’ Ange ordered the cod and I ordered the haddock. On the plate portion size was what I would expect. Overall look was fresh and importantly oil free as we have so sadly seen time and time again on out Thelma and Louise jaunt up and down the Yorkshire coast. Both the haddock and cod were fresh, not over cooked and the batter just the right with the coating light and crispy. Chips were also hot and fresh (would love to know the verity of the tats) fluffy and tasty when you bite in. The accompanying tartare sauce and mushy peas just lovely.
As an ole yorkshire lass I can now say that this meal did not disappoint and would highly recommend as possibly the best fish and chips I’ve had.
Well done Harley’s you’ve knocked it out of the park and we’ll look forward to coming back....
Read morePoor experience all round. The staff were disorganised, poor service and border line rude. Food was ok, but over priced for the portion size. We had to ask 5 times for some milk for a cup of tea, the final time having to leave table to find a member of staff, one meal turned up 10 minutes after the rest and it was only a plate of chips, again had to ask 3 or 4 times. Too top it all off we were later chastised by a member of staff, for mistakenly leaving through the entrance door, although there wasn't anyone there waiting to be seated. Whilst I'm sure there was, I can't say we noticed a signpost saying not to leave. Just to add they were not very busy at the time, so would expect a half decent level of service. There are plenty of fish and chip shops in Whitby to choose from, this has to be the worst experience and expensive in any for sometime. As a regular frequenter of Whitby Fish and Chip shops we won't be...
Read moreThis has always been our go to when we visit Whitby, which is usually at least 4 or 5 times a year. The staff, restaurant, food, service are all fantastic. Never had a reason to complain about anything. But recently we have been left disappointed to see that the fish portions have gotten smaller, considerably so. Which is fine, but the price should be adjusted to reflect this. Just short of £18 for a regular meal deal where the fish is around 2 inches thick at it's widest end, by around 8 inches long coming to a point and lucky to be 1 inch deep just isn't good enough. We've noticed that the peas are just splodged on the plate now and left to spread out whereas they used to be in a ramekin, and the chips portion is also less much than is once was.
Unfortunately we've decided we will try elsewhere from now on as the value for what we pay just inst there anymore. Which is...
