Fort Perch Rock - The Mess! This is a hidden gem but hidden in full view! If you are in Liverpool, Chester, North Wales or the surrounding areas then make the trip and pop along and visit New Brighton Beach! Fantastic promenade, with something for everyone, amusements, arcades, pubs, shops etc... with ample parking (but depending on time of year may mean a walk) and all perched along a very sandy beach. The only downside is the view across the Wirral where the Dock Cranes add a surreal industrial skyline, which is the total opposite to the holiday atmosphere you feel when in NBB. Although this is compensated by Liverpool skyline, which provides a panoramic American skyline perspective. But back to The Mess, a fantastic little bar located in Fort Perch Rock, this is truly a little gem hidden in plain sight! Please, if you get the opportunity take the walk out to The Mess, the staff were super friendly, the ambience is historic but with a tranquil atmosphere that makes you want to stay, that little bit longer!! Get your receipt when ordering.

You go up and order at the till - ordered for 5 adults and 4 kids so asked for the receipt after ordering so I could check I'd got everything right. I noticed they'd added a drink to the bill I didn't ask for.

Wasn't bothered about pointing this out - didn't mind having the extra one for the table.

Oddly, the one drink that I didn't ask for also didn't turn up, despite the fact they only read the order from the same till receipt.

We had my daughter’s 18th here over the weekend and it was fabulous! We wanted a small intimate venue with a cool atmosphere which was in contrast to your typical soulless, function rooms. The Mess is perfect. It has a cool vintage vibe and we were lucky with the weather to sit outside in the courtyard too. The buffet provided was delicious. The service was excellent.
