I'm going to reserve judgement here.I am going to go there next time I visit .Why?? Well because I have been new Brighton but only ever been to the hungry horse over the road which is abslaloutely disgusting.I will never ever enter that filthy minging place again.food is precooked I KNOW this because I was a cook who cooked from fresh but I've seen overcooked food. The peas looked like they had been from someone else's plate were looking so old and grey. The chips black bitty disgusting things ( four times cooked lol,tho not really funny) my carrots for the baby were very old dried up.THE lot went back .Third chance never again. This was inedible.some guys here at the mariner have complained then seriously give the hungry horse a swerve as I cannot imagine the mariner being as bad but I do have a thought for them ALL. Consistency is the key to running good places.Tables should never be sticky or menus as I have read here. The other places is sticky ASWELL.The staff should be friendly to it's customers and food should be cooked fresh. This is a main problem of varies places I go with my grandchildren an family.we go to many eateries..All over the country.you get one good day then go again and it's usually awful. Very few keep up with a consistent basis. It cheeses me off at how fresh it is an YET WE PAY FOR IT IN FULL WITH THAT HOPE OF GOOD FOOD.Every pub can get busy days an hard working staff get stressed but quality of food should be maintained .Southport an other areas have more pleasant eager staff .Birkenhead ( the Wirral ect) has really gone to the dogs.you cannot even get a decent proper portion of chips anywhere that are not bitty or frozen. All mostly some of us want .The oils in ALOT are disgusting to taste.SO GIVE THIS PLACE 3 TRIES I SAY .IM GOING THERE ON MY NEXT VISIT.The boss will have read these reviews so give them another opportunity to right it.He can't do a miracle in one day.I blog all the time on varies places.im always willing to say how I would like my food before it's delivered.so maybe give this a try next time.just say" clean the table give me fresh hot food not overcooked" an see what occurs .No harm in trying.sadly hungry horse wasn't interested and never listened .it really is a dirty PLACE there.master mariner looks pretty, so I am going to give it 3 TRIES next week starting .As they say "I'll be taking pictures for the weekend and be back to tell the tale" happy...
Read moreWas so excited to try this new place out.. it stunk of bleach and fresh paint as soon as you walked in.
Noone told you what to do so you wait at the bar for then to say you need to stay seated to take your food order, another wait..
They came out with a garlic bread instead of a childrens cabrietta meal.. the woman was lovely and understood it was there mistake and she took it over to the chef who kicked off and was in view of us watching him moan and she had to tell him that it is what the menu says and it wasnt our fault.
Our whole time there the chefs were speaking to the staff awful screaming across the kitchen at them which the whole pub could hear.
We did two separate orders but at the same time and the second order came out 40 minutes after the first one including childrens meal.
No one knew what they was doing and it was so awkward
Having two children with us we asked where the baby change was the staff member took us to the toilets downstairs which had no baby change. I finally found disabled toilet and they said they lost the key so was unable to use this.
They only had two high chairs so other children was having to sit on parents knees.
The manager (I assume) with blonde hair was absolutely lovely and the way the chef spoken to her was a disgrace and I asked if she was ok as the whole pub heard.
Wouldn't go again not for a long time anyway.
Also if you have a pram or wheelchair dont bother you have to get up steps...
Read moreDidnt rate food as we've not eaten there yet. Did notice people on next table being told, certain items they ordered from the menu were not available. Was made up when it reopened as a pub, love to sit on the balcony watching the ships and world go by, however, the service is lacking. Went in yesterday a busy, hot sunny Sunday afternoon, NB was heaving! There were 3 staff on the bar downstairs and the service was pleasant, but slow. We were told we could go upstairs if we didn't want to wait. I asked for a pint of San Miguel "sorry, we don't have that here, but you can get it next door" (I am presuming she meant The Queen Hotel (also owned by the owner) next door but one, not the Italian restaurant which is next door! 🤣). I laughed, well I'm in this pub!! 🙄 Ordered something else and completed order. Quite steep, £11+ for one pint lager, and one pint bitter shandy. Later on we managed to get seat upstairs on balcony. Went to upstairs bar. No bitter, "can you go downstairs and order it"!? I was asked. No I can't I replied, again ordered something else!! Then when I wanted to pay cash, she couldn't get till open "can you pay by card" No, I can't, I said, can't you get someone to open the till, she rang someone who came to open it!?? Seems I was, as a paying customer, expected to put myself out! Erm no! Hopefully, it's just teething problems! Nice atmosphere, great location and comfortable to sit for an hour or two overlooking...
