Having travelled Route 66 and being big fans of country music we were hoping for some nostalgia and a refresher on just how wonderful that southern hospitality really is during our visit to Rodeos. Firstly we were immediately impressed by the decor, even just on entry and walking up the stairs the impressive artwork on the walls were a huge talking point that set the tone from the off. Upstairs was just as impressive walking through authentic saloon bar doors to enter the restaurant and bar area was a very nice touch. The decor is truly awesome, with wagon style booths and a rodeo bull filling the floor space it certainly gives you that Wild West feel. Unfortunately we hit out first stumbling block when we had been seated for over 25 minutes before any server came to even take a drink order from us so this became an annoyance early into the experience. That being said the mock tails and alcohol free options were plentiful and really tasty when we finally got round to trying them. We were then told by the server that there was a long list of menu items missing as they had been busier than expected (this cannot be helped and we are not unreasonable people so our mood and experience were unaffected by this situation that was out of the servers control) luckily the sharing platter we wanted could easily be amended for us to enjoy. The server then told us that food at that point had a 45 - 60 minute wait so we ordered some sharing nachos as a starter to tide us over and appease the baby. Nachos arrived quickly and were really tasty, not just plain doritos but authentic crispy, paprika sprinkled goodness! We had about 2 mouthfuls before the 2nd server came over and blunty told us "your mains are coming out now so I need table space to put it" At this point it was evident that southern charm was not present in the servers efforts, there were about 5 other tables in at the time and 2 servers. In my experience in the industry the staff to customer ratio should have been ample for everyone to recieve fantastic service but as one of the tables seemed to be friends of the servers it definitely felt as though you were a burden when requiring their attention, meaning they had to leave their friends booth to tend to our or another table. That being said the mains arrived and everything we had was superbly delicious, we were definitely pleasantly surprised at the portion sizes which meant we took some food home with us! Everything arrived hot and beautifully cooked, the chef clearly knew what he was doing and had the food not been as good as it was then my review would have been a lot different (probably only a one star if we are honest) We waited a while for someone to clear our plates so we could ask for a bill but again the servers were just not very proactive so when our little one was getting restless and upset we walked to the bar area to ask for our bill and a container for our food. During the conversation with the server, her attention was more focused on how bad their night had been, with having so many items missing from the menu and that the manager had just "gone home" even though she was supposed to finish at 9 leaving just 1 other server to do the close. Whilst I was trying to check our bill I noticed we had been over charged for our kids meal so we needed a revision, at this point a lady from another table walked by and asked for the bill to which the server replied "I am getting round to it, you have asked 3 times" which just made both me and my husband cringe. We noted this wasn't said with a bad attitude but rather just a complete lack of good customer service knowledge and perhaps at the risk of sounding condescending a lack of life experience. This immediately recieved an irritated response from the customer which is understandable. We spent around £80 between drinks and food and in all honesty the service definitely put a dampner on the experience for us, the food was tremendous and had the service matched I feel that this venue would thrive. Unfortunately I feel like the service will be...
Read moreSaw the hype around this place online and in the Express & Star so thought we would give it a go. We hadn't been out for a meal since August 2020 and saw an opportunity here and took it. Having looked on the website, we could see that parking would be an issue, so booked a cab. I would highly recommend that if you are planning to eat here to be dropped off or go in a taxi, as the public carparks in the area are chargeable and aren't great. The spaces that are on site are for the Kitchen store next door.
Arriving in the courtyard, the entrance to Rodeo's is clearly seen and easy to locate. Instantly you are thrown into the American theme, with an outdoor speaker playing Country & Western music. This country music continues into the restaurant and is clearly audible when you are seated.
The door to Rodeo's is up a small flight of stairs and once inside, another two large flight of stairs to get to the restaurant (which is effectively on the second floor). We have a family member who is hard of walking, so this was the only issue with the restaurant that we found. The owner was in the restaurant when we visited and he explained that the council wouldn't give planning permission to sort disabled access. He apologised for this but this did not affect our experience at all.
We were quickly seated and offered the drinks menu. The selection of drinks was excellent and were served to us quickly. We ordered out starters and mains shortly afterwards.
All starters were extremely well presented (I started to eat mine before I got a photograph). I had the Chicken tenders which were beautifully seasoned, moist and soft. The quality of the dish was excellent and I certainly could have had more than 4. The BBQ sauce that came with starter complemented the chicken beautifully.
The main course (pictured) was Dirty Sanchez BBQ Stacker (effectively Hunters Chicken). This also came with 2 further chicken tenders. Standard skin on fries are provided with the dish, but I paid the extra £1 to upgrade mine to Hunters fries (which are fries with BBQ Sauce, Bacon and American Cheese). All of the food on the plate was extremely tasty, very well presented, well cooked and hot.
I ordered a side of BBQ beans which were fantastic and shared a side of giant onion rings with others on the table. Very crisp and tasty (as an onion ring should be).
Once we had completed the meal, we received the desert menu. The Cheesecake I had (pictured) came with a choice of toppings, but I selected crunchie. It took a little while to be prepared and served to me (the waitress did apologise for the delay). The Cheesecake is to die for. Really light and fluffy, with crunchie pieces and warm chocolate covering it also. It was seriously worth the wait.
The overall experience of Rodeo's was fantastic. The staff are extremely friendly and our waitress could not have been more helpful. All food was presented perfectly and the setting of the restaurant is fantastic. I found myself singing along to the music that was playing throughout the visit.
I highly recommend that this restaurant be visited by anyone in...
Read moreWe visited rodeos out on a whim when my other half wanted nothing more than a hotdog. Having never been before, we didn't know what to expect.
Before I progress into this review further, I want to note that we arrived at the restaurant around 4.30pm, which for the UK is a particularly non standard time, so I am keeping this in mind and accounting for this when marking out the service. Upon parking and walking into the restaurant, we were particularly unclear as to where to go when reaching the top of the stairs, as the signs were incredibly themed.
Given the building's previous history as a nightclub (or so I've been informed), I'd imagine this used to be the ticketing booth location, and now is used to take in bookings on busy evenings or when events are planned within the restaurant. As a result, we spent a good few minutes unnoticed in their corridor 'waiting area', before a member of staff (who by looks of it was doing some maintenance) walked past and directed us into the main dining hall
Upon walking into the dining area, the service could not have been better. The south USA themed bar and stage area, alongside country music over the sound system really helped transport you across to the deep south. The waitress was more than happy to seat us at walk-ins into a rather empty dining hall (to be expected given the early time) and was quick to give us menus, take drinks orders and serve food.
The food itself was incredibly good, the cost per dish was higher than average, but the Portion size absolutely made up for it. We ended up taking home almost half of the slow cooked ribs, which I couldn't squeeze in despite how tasty it was. From a brief glance at the desert menu after eating as well , I'd regret not keeping more space back for trying one. If I'd known when I first went the portion sizes , I likely would've ordered a smaller sounding dish!
The only hindrance we faced in our visit was having to wait a while to be able to ask for the bill. Due to our time or arrival, the waitress originally serving us had left, and as the restaurant had grown significantly busier compared to when we moved in, and I think we were easily missed by the other waitresses who had just come into a fairly frantic restaurant! It wasn't a major delay, and we were able to get help paying our bill in decent time despite this, with just as good service despite the increased stress on the staff.
I'm really looking forward to returning with family members from out of the area, as they don't have a south USA BBQ themed country restaurant near then. Feeling incredibly lucky to have such a place...
