Trying Hard, but is it Too Hard?
I'll start off by saying the restaurant was visited on Labor Day, when other similar breakfast spots were closed. This likely played into the lengthy wait or the sad fact of the place running out of biscuits at noon. Overall, I would go back to First Warch, albeit it won't be my first choice.
Menu
The menu to include the additional fall menu was quite substantial, almost overwhelming. The restaurant clearly highlights their cage free eggs, and as my son stated, "avocado comes with everything." It feels a bit west coast when the gravy was turkey based, although I can't attest to the taste as they were out of biscuits. The only thing I would have liked to see on the menu would be the addition of pitchers of mimosas. They have individuals with cute little bottles of champagne, but the fiancee and I would have preferred a pitcher.
Service
The waitress was pleasant, as was her trainee. The mass of customers clearly caused some issues, but that's to be expected, and I'd say overall, they handled it well. There was a snafu with one order. It must have fallen off the ticket or missed as it took 5 or so minutes longer to receive. No harm, no foul.
Food
The food was good, albeit First Watch attempts to make it appear it's something more. The eggs, french toast, and pancakes were good, fairly routine. The bacon was downright, sad, more equivalent what's served at Waffle House. No offense to WH, when you're paying twice as much for the same meal, you'd expect a bit better quality. The more disappointing portion was the Million Dollar Potatoes. These were home fried potatoes with bacon and a parmesan cheese sauce. The potatoes were a bit undercooked, the bacon's been addressed, and the cheese sauce was OK but minimally applied. Overall, the food was good but nothing to write home about, just a review.
Conclusion Pleasant and good staff, moderately good food, a bit overpriced with busy menu....
Read moreI heard about this brunch spot, from the ex- boyfriend turned cool af friend. He actually told me about the short pump location in Richmond area, in Virginia.
Aberdeen, NC location. Plenty parking, clean grounds, clean restaurant, mostly clean restroom (hands free sink area items - touchless soap dispenser, motion activated faucet and auto paper towels dispenser), rustic decor or shabby chic, easily distinguishable staff, Uber friendly staff (hostess, server, random male in all black 'cook attire').
Server took drink orders with an attitude of happy to help you. Very patient, attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. Okay for the good part..... was the food good? I ordered, a waffle, eggs fried hard, and piggie hips aka bake-con-nuh (bacon). Let's start with the bacon, to die for. Okay. The correct crispness I require, uh oh, the egg, although tasty (how can you mess up an egg), only by cooking it different than requested. Request, fried hard, Received Scrambled in a rounded square. All good. My food was 4.5 out of 5 only because of the egg.
Ib wanted one of my cousins to get the shrimp and grits so I could get a few bites. The server bought out a dish of shrimp and grits in the house. 💣! Above and beyond customer service, YaY! One of my cousins ordered French Toast which was Jolly Green Giant porti sized. She are the whole two pieces easily.
The first experience at First Watch, Aberdeen, NC, was a success. Clean, awesome customer service and ticket prices were low to moderate. My order without tip totaled $17. I...
Read moreWe were seated within a few moments, suggested for elderly clients that have only been in the area about 1 yr (trying to find places they enjoy eating).. We all three were excited, until our order started arriving. The coffee and my clients watermelon drink were the highlight of the meal. Had to wait some time for our meal, the husband and my meal arrived and his wife's didn't... we had to wait another 15 mins for her meal.. the grits were very good but, the turkey sausage gravy was not what was expected, it was sweet. The wife and I didn't even finish half of our gravy biscuit. We asked for more coffee, it never came. It was miserable in the corner of the restaurant... we were roasting.. staff even looked like they were sweating.. When I mentioned to the waitress about the heat (I believe she said to call her "T", she was very sweet) she complained about the heat also and said all the staff was complaining that something was up with the system and the cooks were upset as well and the heat was effecting their priformance... When we were leaving the one that checked us out looked like she had ran a marathon she was so hot.. My clients requested we mark this off the list of places to come back too. Im sorry but, First Watch gets 👎👎👎 Hopefully the issues will be resolved before it effects...
