UPDATE (July 16, 2023 at 5:30 pm): I decided to visit again (the Akron location) for National Ice Cream day and was provided with a lukewarm greeting. The customer service at THIS location has steadily declined over time since the owner has been frequenting his other locations, striving to expand his business. There was an employee who was in training who had a great personality and was very helpful and friendly. However, it was the lack of consideration from the more experienced employee that left me with a bad impression of this location and the strong inclination to not return. During every visit at each location that I've been to, I've asked for a 2 flavor pint and requested that the flavors be placed side-by-side instead of on top of each other. This allows for both flavors to be enjoyed together. This was initially encouraged by the owner and has since then been supported by employees during every visit. Today's visit was a vastly different experience. When I requested the side-by-side flavors, the more experienced employee interrupted me to state this CANNOT be done and to emphasize that they don't have dividers. While I tried to explain that this is something routinely done, (and to help instruct the new employee how this has been accomplished with no need for a divider), the seasoned employee repeated the fact that there are no dividers and proceeded to instruct the new employee to disregard my request. To make things easier for the new employee who was serving me, I chose not to pursue the matter in the store further. I believe this location's employees are sorely in need of retraining; this was not an outlandish request, and this was a missed learning opportunity for both employees. It's unfortunate that customer service can hurt an already painfully slow business day and, in the long-term, hurt the influx of customers to the downtown Akron location.
The lavender honey is amazing and the owner is very friendly! Will DEFINITELY be coming back and have already "recommended...
Read moreBest ice cream in the Akron area. Parking is a little rough because it's limited to street parking or paying at the garage across from the art museum, but Akron is a very walkable city. Chill is a little odd to get to. If you enter from the street, it's down a staircase (next to Akron Coffee Roasters) with splatter paint on the walls, then down a hallway that will eventually open up to Chill. Entering from near the Valet parking lot, there is a garage door that's open in the summer, or a door next to it that's open year round. There are a ton of very original flavors that are inspired by community groups. They give out as many samples as you want, which you will want to take advantage of because the flavors are so unique. The prices are fair for the amount of ice cream that you get. The atmosphere and decor is a little odd. But all that can be put aside for the deliciousness of...
Read moreBest local ice cream, period. They carry lots of flavors you can’t find anywhere else, flavors you’ve never even imagined, right alongside perfected recipes for some of the classics if you or someone you’re with doesn’t want to steer outside their ice cream comfort zone. For most people, you’ll want to try pretty much all of the different choices, and you’re absolutely allowed to ask for baby spoon sized samples (how else would you know if you wanted to spend money on ice cream with ingredients like lavender, Cabernet, cayenne pepper or balsamic glaze mixed in? Try some new stuff!). The prices aren’t outrageous at all, you’d easily be charged much more for something like this in a snootier spot in a bigger city. Speaking of which, the atmosphere is super family friendly and casual, nestled in an old building, part of the historic arts...
