I can't write about the food because the service was SO TERRIBLE I asked for a refund before I ever got it, twenty five minutes after we got our beer (we started a terrible Larry the Cable Guy movie when we ordered so we know how long it was). I've been in service industry for 15 years so I know the struggles. I know them so well I can tell you EXACTLY what happened. My partner and I wanted to try the barbacoa because we heard such GREAT things about them. In fact,my partner had been in a few days prior and was RAVING about how awesome it was. The bartender seemed friendly enough but treated us differently once we asked for a beer, split in two cups. We ordered and paid for our tacos and beer. Then a three top, a to go order and a two top walked in, all of whom began receiving their food before us. The three top sat outside and one of them had to ask for a wet towel to wipe their table. Instead of her wiping for them, she gave them a rag, turned her back to us and continued watching tv. When asked if there was a problem as far as the delay in our food, our bartender chose to lie and act like everything was fine. We asked once each, giving her the opportunity to relay the issue and she told us "Oh i just put it back through" as if it were the kitchen that lost the ticket. Had she been honest and told us what happened (she forgot, the kitchen DID lose the ticket, it happens, we're human), we would have stayed. Instead, she chose to treat us like we were in the wrong for asking and passing the buck for blame or responsibility at every turn. It is the bartenders responsibility to relay shortcomings to the client, and to provide a clean environment, not just an entertaining one. This lack of accountability and random prejudice is unacceptable and harmful to your business.
TL:DR Went in for quick taco, left hungry and disappointed. Terrible bartenders can ruin...
Read moreThis is my very first time trying this place, and let me tell you.... I am a huge foodie snob and like my food very flavorful and on point... El Jefe, YOU DID NOT DISAPPOINT! We ordered on door dash.
The flavors. Oh my gosh, the flavors! I had the Street Taco (3 Pieces) in 3 different flavors, as well as the Chips & Salsa:
Honey lime chicken - the pulled chicken was tender and juicy. You could really taste the genuine honey-lime flavor, which I usually dont taste in food from other places. It was delightful.
Spicy pork carnitas - the pulled pork was tender and delicious. It had a hint of the spicy, but not too spicy where you blow your pallete. Carnitas are some of my favorite tacos to eat when theyre made right, and these were perfect.
Sweet and Smokey - my absolute fave! I am not the biggest fan of a "Smokey" flavor in some things, but the smokiness in the pulled pork was just perfection and made my tastebuds dance. I truly enjoyed the taste and savored it after every bite!
The tacos all had the same toppings, which was surprisingly nice! It had some kind of aoli or chipotle crema kind of sauce with tasty seasonings and spices, red onions, lightly pickled jalepenos (not spicy), a small slice of avocado and finished with cotija cheese, and that just brought all of the flavors from every taco together.
The chips and salsa I believe are a bit overpriced, but they were good. Good crunch on the corn chips, and the salsa was fresh and flavorful. The tacos were definetly the spotlight. I am happy to share that personally, El Jefe is the best street taco joint in Alaska! I will definitely order here again and will have to go give the place a visit in person next!! Well...
Read moreThis is a nice clean little taco joint next to Ganja Guys in the same building. Located in midtown which is convenient. The menu is small but there are some good things to choose from. They have more than what is on the menu in the picture. Check their social media for specials and new items.
The tacos were pretty good. They were flavorful and saucey. I've tried one of each and have been there twice so far. The prices are best when you order 3 for $10.50. You order at the counter, pay, & then sit down. Then they will bring the food to you. There are many flavors of Jarritos sodas and they have alcoholic beverages as well.
We also ordered sides - street corn in a cup and chips & salsa. The street corn tasted good. It had house sauce, cilantro, cotija cheese, & came with a lime. The salsa we ordered was hot but did not taste super hot. The chips were really thick & super crunchy. I think I'd prefer something thinner. I just poured the salsa onto my tacos.
Overall, we enjoyed it and would go back and maybe try some other things on the menu. There is also a nice patio that would be nice to sit and have a meal on a sunny day.
Edit 10/25/21: I went back and ate the chips again and they tasted better. They weren't too hard and looked slightly darker. They tasted freshly cooked. Much...
