Had tried to set up a lovely afternoon tea to have a girls day with family while I was in anchorage visiting. I had been messaging back and forth for 4 weeks, prior to arriving in anchorage to make sure they could have gluten free and vegetarian option for us. We had a date and time set. I get a message a few days prior to the date we set up saying they required a minimum of 2 people in order to do the gluten free and that would be $70.00. I had sent another message to confirm everything and didn't hear back, so 2 days before we were suppose to go for our tea I called them, I told the lady who answered the phone that I had been messaging with someone there about having a afternoon tea that Sat at 3pm and wanted to make sure everything was all set. She told me it was either her or the owner who was messaging with me. Then she goes on to say that they weren't doing English afternoon tea that weekend because it was Chinese New year. I was upset and asked why no one could say something savings that I had been chatting with them through Facebook messenger for a month about this date and afternoon tea. Her reply to me was " well if you had been chatting with us on Facebook then you should have seen that this weekend was Chinese New Year." So I told her forget it, cancel whatever you had us down for if you have us down at all. Never got a message back on messenger either. Really poor customer service. I would never recommend this place. I found some place else to have our girls day tea and...
Read moreI've never written a review for anywhere before, but I felt like this was worth it. Don't book the Afternoon Tea Service. Save your time and money. We thought it sounded like a cool experience, as we're big tea drinkers. At $32 per person, it was advertised as a tea service with an fine teas, and an array of treats, pastries, and snacks. We booked an appointment a couple days in advance, showed up, and we're told to sit where we wanted. The place was just about empty, aside from a few employees, and 15 minutes later someone came by to take our tea order. 30 minutes went by before four small tea pots were brought to us, all filled with what we could only describe as tea-flavored water - literally the weakest, most watered down tea I've ever seen/tasted. Another 30 minutes went by and someone finally brought us a couple platters of snacks, which were all fine, but at this point I was wondering what's the point of even booking an appointment if it takes well over an hour to even get served, even when they're not busy at all. And I guess we assumed the tea would be good since it's, ya know, a tea lounge. Overpriced, poor service, watered down tea. It seemed like we were more of an inconvenience to them than customers spending $130 to drink tea and...
Read moreI really wanted to love this place from the moment we found it but after giving it three tries we're super disappointed. The overall vibe of the staff is to try and get you to not order something. Twice we have been in the middle of their opening hours and were told the kitchen is closed. The staff seemed to be cleaning up and closing down the kitchen one hour after being open. There's times there is only one staff member working and we completely understood and avoided ordering food because it happens and he seemed overwhelmed with tea/coffee orders. But the second time there was an entire staff and had only one group of customers doing tea service. Both times there was only a few people in there and not busy at all. We tried ordering a simple thing like toast and were told that would take 20 minutes. The toast was super good, I want to go there again it just seems like a recurring theme. The tea and coffee is usually super good but this last time you could taste soap from whatever they recently cleaned to make our drinks to the point where we just had to throw them out which sucks. Wish they'd just be open when the hours reflect and capable of making any of the food...
