This was going to get 5 stars based on the ambience and how nice the first person who greeted us was. We came in as a family of 3 and sat in 2, 2 person round tables. It was not crowed and the tables are very small we all wanted the 12 dollar lunch in addition to brew flights so we needed the space. We chose the spot bc the other room (that was also not crowded) was freezing and had no windows. I explained this to our server and some other gal that worked there who both said "ok". After 15 minutes the other gal (not our server) asked us to pick up everything and squish into one 2 person table as a party of 3 because it wasn't fair to take a table of tips away from the server. I said if that was the case I would gladly compensate the waitress double the tip based on what our bill was so she didn't miss out. I was then told that's not actually why they wanted us to move but it was because it might get busy. So they moved us to the other room . We finished the drinks and 12 buck hotdogs and paid and left. Sadly my husband would have sat there in that one table in the front after we were done eating and continue to try the brews while my daughter and I shopped therefor making our waitresses tip very nice after all was said and done. When we left there was 1 family in the other room and 6 empty tables. 3 parties in the room we had to be moved into and not a single person even attempting to walk in. Due to the flat out rudeness and lies gal number 2 fed us she cost this business some money, which in a town based on tourism probably isn't a good thing. So all in all the costco hotdogs and chips were overpriced, the service was not 100% across the board so save yourself the hassle and eat the hotdogs on boars the ship and try the other...
Read moreIf I could give this place 10 stars, I would. I've been a craft beer fan/tourist since before I could legally drink beer and have travelled far and wide to sample beer. I've been to the west coast, the east coast, and many points in-between. I grew up in Wisconsin and have sampled some of the best beer in the world there. Why am I telling you all of this? To establish my bona fides, so that when I tell you this is the best DAMN brewery in all the land, you can believe that I know what I'm talking about.
Do they have food? Sure, but if you are someone who is looking for and appreciates good food over good beer, then you're looking for a restaurant, not a brewery.
The Spruce Ale (made with Sitka Spruce tips with a Rye IPA base) is far and away the best beer I've ever tasted and it's made here. Technically, there are two breweries in Skagway, but really Klondike is so far ahead of where Skagway Brewing Company in regards to quality that it's not even a close competition. If you can only visit one, do yourself a favor and drink here.
The staff is spectacularly amazing and generous with their time and attention. The venue is similar to other breweries, but this one is warmer, with fewer industrial touches and more natural wood to make it feel inviting.
Honestly, I could go on for pages about this place. I spent an entire afternoon here just enjoying the fantastic beer. Some of you may not find anything you like here, in which case I imagine you're far too picky to please. But, if you're a true craft beer fan, I imagine you may fall in love with this place...
Read moreIf you want a tasty brew without all the glitzy glam and fuss (it's a good thing I promise) this is the place. Walked in and the staff were so so friendly right off the bat. They knew they were a bit busy because of so many ships arriving that day and were very up front and apologetic. We weren't in a rush so we happily grabbed a barrel and a menu out on the patio. Someone was over to us almost immediately to take our order and apologized again as it may be a minute before our flights came out. We said no worries and chatted away. Less than five minutes later our flights arrived. Definitely not slow service at all. As for our flight, it was absolutely fantastic. The Original Lager was our favorite but the Devil's Punchbowl was a close second. I was bummed I couldn't bring any back on the ship lol. All-in-all a great visit. I really can't say enough about how friendly the staff was either. Highly recommended if you're in Skagway...
